Description

The aim of the project is to create an adaptation strategy for the city of Přerov. The global objective of the Adaptation Strategy of the Statutory City of Přerov is therefore to mitigate the effects of climate change by adapting to these changes, while preserving living standards and the sustainable development of the economy. Longer heatwaves, heavy rains and drought have recently hit our city. We''re preparing for similar situations in the future.

Summary of project results

Negative effects associated with the impacts of climate change also plague the territory on which the city of Přerov is located. Our city has an eminent interest in responding to climate changes in its territory and facing their consequences through adaptation and mitigation measures. We see it as a strategic priority of long-term importance. Adaptation to climate change is thus a key opportunity for the city of Přerov in its future, which is why we decided to prepare a project whose main goal is to create an Adaptation Strategy of the city of Přerov to climate change for the period 2021-2030. The global goal of this functional strategy has become mitigating the effects of climate change, adapting to these changes while maintaining living standards and sustainable economic development. To achieve the goals of the project, we have decided on a multidisciplinary approach. We tried to communicate effectively with all relevant target groups, i.e. with all stakeholders, professionals and the general public. Among them were also watershed managers, forest managers, specialists in modern energy or various smart concepts. An innovative approach and an emphasis on the application of new technologies and suitable innovative concepts were also a key perspective.

As part of the analytical part of the project, we mapped the entire territory of the statutory city of Přerov and focused on analyzing its vulnerability from the point of view of climatic threats, such as drought, floods, soil degradation, energy security or socio-economic stability. We consulted the city''s preparedness for the effects of climate change directly with the city''s citizens as part of a public survey.

The result of our work is both a proposal for measures to prevent threats that were defined for our location, as well as a prepared Action Plan that will be used for the application of the given measures. Negative impacts have been defined in many areas related to forestry, agriculture, recreation, transportation in energy. For each area, solutions related to the expansion of urban greenery, the construction of areas with a permeable surface, new wetlands, biotopes, the use of renewable resources, the responsible management of municipal waste, etc., were subsequently proposed.
