Description
The purpose of the project is to reduce the marine waste in the water areas adjacent to Pomorie Municipality by deploying two high-tech aquadrones to collect and safely empty marine litter. Supplied with additional sensors, the drones will also collect data on the water status of the targeted areas. Follow-up analyses and reports will help develop a system for prevention of marine waste. Other prevention measures include education and information dissemination initiatives, trainings and PR campaigns.
The project is complementary to the measures envisaged in the Bulgarian Marine Strategy. It is implemented by Pomorie Municipality in partnership with Fisheries Local Action Group, and International Development Norway AS.
The project will focus on the performance of 3 initiatives for marine waste reduction. They envisage a Clean-up of Pomorie Lake, Aheloy River and its estuary, the Black sea shores with the help of high-tech water drones.
Another project measure is the educational campaign which will be held, targeting students from 15-19 years old in different high schools. The expected outcome is to achieve engagement with the community and to make people self- conscious about the undertaken actions towards the marine waste reduction.
Moreover, another campaign will be provided to teachers with a topic related to the application and the reuse of the collected marine waste on the Pomorie’ aquatory.
