Description

In the context of the crisis generated by the Covid-19 pandemic, the loss of jobs and the restrictions imposed for all citizens on the territory of Romania have aggravated the difficulties faced by vulnerable groups. The vulnerable groups targeted by the foundation are homeless people, people in informal settlements, people living in overcrowded homes at risk of poverty, people over 65, unemployed, children, people chronically ill. The low incomes they had, mostly from their daily work, were stopped because of the cessation of activities and decrease of the incomes of the economic operators for which they worked. The crisis generated by the Covid-19 pandemic has accentuated the vulnerable situation of the people targeted by the foundation to the point where they encounter difficulties in ensuring the necessities of basic living, such as food. Moreover, given the limited access to education, these groups face among the greatest difficulties in understanding and adopting appropriate behavior in terms of measures to prevent and combat the spread of the new coronavirus.

Summary of project results

Through this project, Foundation contributed to increasing the awarness of 1,500 people in difficulty, by making and disseminating explanatory brochures containing information adapted to the needs of vulnerable groups regarding the crisis generated by COVID- 19 in order to help them understand and manage correctly this crisis situation, as well as to provide the medical masks necessary to ensure a minimum of protection.

Based on the information collected, there were drafted and printed brochures on COVID-19 protection measures. They were distributed together with medical masks in each location included in the project, to 1500 beneficiaries. In order to minimize the risk of infection, local leaders, priests, teachers were mobilized to take part in the distribution of the protective masks and brochures. The main change brought by the project to its final beneficiaries consists in the modification of the perception regarding the need to use the protective mask during the COVID-19 pandemic. The interventions within the project also represented a possibility to communicate with the targeted communities and an opportunity to further support and encourage sustainable approaches at community level.

The categories of beneficiaries approached were single-parent families, families with many children, single elderly, unemployed persons, vulnerable Roma, people from informal settlements, homeless people. The targeted communities are in: Bucharest – district 2 and 5; and in Ilfov County, localities Ciorogarla, Vizuresti, Mihailesti, Moara Vlasiei. A number of 374 vulnerable people were consulted in order to prepare information leaflets on COVID-19 protection measures in a way that is easy to understand and adapted to their situation.
