Description

The aim of the project is to create an adaptation strategy for the region of Podluží. The objective of the Podluží Region''s Adaptation Strategy is to mitigate impacts of Climate Change by adapting to it as much as possible, preserving the well-being of the territory concerned and preserving and possibly improving economic potential for future generations.

Summary of project results

Our "painted region", as the area is often called, is characterized by a flat landscape and a warm climate. Thanks to these conditions, advanced agriculture specializing in the cultivation of thermophilic plants has developed here. The subject of the project, in the implementation of which 15 local municipalities were involved, was the creation of an adaptation strategy to climate change, which will contribute to a unified approach of municipalities in solving the problems that have arisen from the changing climate. The strategy addresses issues such as the negative impact of high temperatures, strong winds and extreme hydrological phenomena, such as torrential rains, floods and droughts in the open countryside and in built-up areas. We also focus on reducing the energy dependence or energy intensity of buildings.

The Podluží region is a predominantly rural area that suffers from specific problems. These include, for example, overheating of the surrounding soil after the harvest season, and drought and soil erosion are also significant risks. It is therefore not surprising that most of the proposed measures are aimed at the water regime and greenery in the landscape and in the municipalities. The proposed measures include, for example, the revitalization of the wetland in the village of Hrušky, the establishment of a pond in the village of Kostice, the establishment of windbreaks and landscape greenery, the revitalization of public space at the church in Týnec na Moravě, the reconstruction of the square in Lanžhot and the construction of ponds in Josefov. The activities, and especially the proposed measures for climate change, were also consulted with foreign partners through the drafter of the Adaptation Strategy, Aquaforce, who will use the information obtained from the preparation of the strategy on their territory in drafting strategic documents focusing on climate change.

The project enabled us to obtain a new strategic document, which will be helpful in the practical implementation of adaptation measures in the territory of the Podluží Region. The individual municipalities involved will follow up on the document by implementing specific adaptation measures that will enable them to deal more effectively with the effects of a changing climate.

Summary of bilateral results

The activities, and above all the proposals for climate change measures, were consulted with the foreign partners involved in the project through the developer of the Adaptation Strategy, Aquaforce. Foreign partners will use the information obtained from the preparation of the strategy in their territory when designing strategic documents with a focus on climate change.
