Description
The overall goal of the project is to promote equal opportunities and integration of Roma children into CRO educational system. The specific goals are: to sensitize and involve the Roma community in the promotion of education; to promote participation and involvement between Roma families and the school; to provide support, information and assistance to Roma students in order to avoid nonattendance and drop out of school; to provide support at the transition between primary and secondary school. The support to students of 8th grade will be provided directly by Roma teaching assistants (male and female) who will, according to the needs of each student and the instructions of professional associates of the school: communicate with students daily (support in solving homework, monitoring teaching content, reminding of deadlines); communicate with parents (technical support, support in creating a schedule of daily activities); technical support (support for students and parents in the installation and use of applications). In this way, we will provide Roma students with support in completing primary education, motivate them to continue their education, sensitize and involve the entire Roma families in promoting education. Furthermore, campaign to encourage inclusion in education aimed at parents and future high school students belonging to the Roma nationality, and the general public will be implemented. Both project partners, local Roma Association ROM HR (trust within Roma community and target Roma families) and local primary school (professional educational assistance to target students) have key role for successful implementation of the project and contribute with their expertize. No bilateral partners involved.
Summary of project results
The most important achievement of the project "Active classroom for the Roma population" is that all 15 students who participated in the project activities successfully completed primary education, and despite all the challenges and problems caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, 13 students enrolled in high school. At the same time, we have built students'' understanding of education as the key to getting out of poverty and entering the economic, political, cultural and wider social life of the community. It was especially important for us to build quality cooperation between all stakeholders in the educational process, and the support of educational staff of the school attended by Roma was extremely important and necessary for Roma children to realize their human right to education and acquire skills needed to become equal members of the community in which they live. Through the project, we encouraged all stakeholders in the educational process to work together and involve Roma children in the completion of primary education, which contributed to ensuring equal opportunities, combating social marginalization and encouraging social integration of Roma. Establishing communication with school educators will continue to have a positive effect on the improvement of Roma primary education and the removal of obstacles that stand in the way of Roma children on the path to successful schooling and inclusion in society. Furthermore, the cooperation with parents of Roma ethnicity was extremely good, and all parents showed interest in participating in project activities. The role of parents as promoters of the importance of education in their community is especially important not only in terms of educating Roma, but also a great contribution to the whole community in reducing the gap between Roma and the majority population when it comes to integrating Roma into the wider community.
