Description

The Dominican Church, an integral part of the Dominican Monastery, is the oldest church in Košice. It is a national cultural monument. Objective of the project is preservation of valuable national historical monument from the 13th century in terms of the facade renovation. The project aims to achieve increased interest of the wider public in the preservation of the cultural heritage of the city Košice also for future generations. The project consists of the completion of missing church facade components, facade consolidation up to the color paint, renovation of stone and plaster components located on the church facade and of the metallic forged cross located on the western facade wall. All church visitors will benefit from the project – the inhabitants of Košice and tourists. The Norwegian project partner will contribute to the project visualization, publishing its objective and the culture of this donor´s country. The Monastery of Dominican nuns in Oslo, Norway is partner in this project and it will assist with the presentation of the project and the donor´s country (Norway) through days of culture and literature, establishing a new tradition in Košice – The Days of Norwegian Culture.

Summary of project results

The project helped to improve the conservation and promotion of the most ancient historic monument in Košice for the long term period. The promoter provided the restoration of the fascade of cultural monument from 13./14. century. The project consists of the completion of missing church facade components, facade consolidation up to the color paint, renovation of stone and plaster components located on the church facade and of the metallic forged cross located on the western facade wall. Promoter also organised several meetings and cultural events with partners of the project. All objectives and outputs of the project were fulfilled: the restored 1875 m2 of the facade and one crucifix and two conferences were oranised with the project partners to share a cultural exchage between Slovakia and Norway.

Summary of bilateral results

The project had one donor project partner - Lunden Kloster, Øvre Lunden 5, N-0598, Oslo. The donor project partner was without financial contribution from project grant. One of the aims of the project was to build a bridge for cultural, national and personal exchange. In cooperation with partners the promoter prepared two conferences. The first conference was focused on the life and work of the writer Sigrid Undset and it was held in May 2, 2015. The second was held in November 7, 2015, and the theme was the life and work of Hyacint Jozef Tandara. The promoter organized also a concert with Norwegian musicians – Kitchen orchestra and Iva Bittova in November 28, 2014.
