Description

In the city of Alesd from Bihor county, 11,000 people are living, of which 10% represent the Roma community. Beside the Roma, there is a population of Hungarian and Slovak ethnicity communities living together with Romanians. In the city schools there are registered about 200 Roma children facing discrimination as well as school segregation. Apart from the physical separation, Roma children do not enjoy the same conditions as non-Roma children and the most general quality of education for these children is lower. The project aim is to increase the collaboration between 50 Roma and non-Roma youth in Ardud, by promoting human rights principles, Roma culture and history, in non-formal educational activities. The project will be addressed to a number of 50 children between the ages of 13 and 16 from the Alesd schools, representing all ethnicities living in the city and will materialize in the following activities: workshop for creating unconventional instruments from recyclable materials, workshop of vocal technique and public speaking, a workshop for stage presence and movement, all leading to a multicultural festival in which children will perform without having had a similar experience before the project. The project is proposed by our association in partnership with an NGO from Norway that can provide real support not only for achieving the project objectives but also for developing the capacity and sustainability of the association.
