The Project involves the reconstruction of historic buildings located in Malbork Castle’s Ward.
1. Conservation, restoration and construction works (expansion, reconstruction and renovation) on historical monuments and in their surroundings (with the supervision over these works).2. Protection of historic gardens and parks (along with the supervision over these works) There are no costs within this category.3. Cultural and educational offer. 4. Training related to the scope of the project, including vocational training, training on cultural entrepreneurship and cultural heritage management (organized by Beneficiary and Partner). Optional activities:. Conservation of movable monuments, collection of books or manuscripts, archival materials, museum collection - there are no costs under this category.
Digitization of movable monuments, collection of books or manuscripts, archival materials, museum collection-there are no costs under this category. Purchase of equipment for conducting cultural activities and protecting cultural heritage (only necessary to achieve the set goal).The purchase of equipment is an essential element for expanding the cultural and educational offer, adapting the analyzed objects to the activities of the museum library, conservation and digitization workshops as well as the Center for research on the Teutonic heritage and to improve access to culture for local communities and excluded groups.

Summary of project results

Project : Reconstruction the monumental household building on the Malbork Castle Outer Bailey along with their adaptation to cultural and educational functions was focused on the recovery of 2 former household buildings adaptated to the Museum’s function: library, conservator workshops, digitaliation workshop and Centre for Research of Post-Teutonic Heritage. Apart the conservator- and constructionworks the Malbork Castle Museum has started with the new cultural and educational offer speciffically targeted at different groups of visitors: the local community, children and teenagers, foreigners. Main theme of all activities is the history of castle’s architecture and the after-war recovery of Malbork castle, also in the social perspective.

As a result of the work carried out, relics of medieval and modern architecture in the Outer Bailey were conserved, previously unknown relics discovered during the work were exposed, and 2,000 metres of surface were gained. After finish the project Museum has started with the implemenation of the new educational and cultural offer. The project has enabled the development of the Malbork castle’s Outer Bailey area – the space damaged in 2. world war at risk of total destruction. There is also the space to improve the activities connecting with the protect of Museum’s objects and the development of Museum’s education.

Summary of bilateral results

Partners of the project: Nordlandsmuseet in Bodø and Bodø KommuneThe project continued the proces of post-war reconstruction and development of the castle complex in Malbork. It got involved reconstruction and restoration 2 buildings on Outer Bailey with their adaptation to new functions connecting with the heritage protection, among others: conervation workshops. In relation to the main task of this project were planned activties in the partnership: the exchange of experience between conservators from Malbork and Bodø in the common training run and the presentation for local communities in Malbork and Bodø: the results of conservation projects carried out by each institution: on Malbork Castle and on cultural heritage sites in the Nordland region. Employees of the both institution have prepared 4 common workshops and 2 temporary exhibitions. The temporary exhibition „Rekonstruksjon av historiske gårdsbygninger i Malbork slott” was presented in Stormen bibliotek in Bodø from 7 November to 26 November 2023. The temporary exhibition prepared by Arnstein Brekke (from Bodø Kommune) was presented in the new library (opened in the reconstructed buildings) from 27 April 2024 to 15 February 2025.Project will be continued: there are planning next temporary exhibitions connecting with the experiences of the project and further exchange of experiences.
