Description
Asylum seekers and refugees are one of the most vulnerable groups in society. They have no representative, no voice, or place to live. Moreover, their difficult life circumstances often deprive them of strength to stand up for themselves. Advocacy work by NGOs is essential to ensure that their situation does not deteriorate, but is at least maintained and improved where possible.
Project PROASYLUM is a quick, professional and committed response to the authorities'' new attempt to circumvent its Geneva Convention obligations under EU law. The project aims to defend and protect the rights of asylum seekers and refugees through professional advocacy. Advocacy work will also include deterring attacks on NGOs providing assistance to foreigners and refugees, as this has become an integral part of any legislative process related to this issue.
In cooperation with the project partner and the members of the NGO network for assistance to refugees, we will also prepare expert opinion and arguments regarding the proposal of the International Protection Act. These documents will serve as an advocacy tool in the process.
A communication strategy to reach the media and the public will be developed in order to reduce the fear of refugees and gain support – or at least attract no major opposition – from the public.
