Description

During the Covid-19 pandemic, the artists, who are usually people who inspire their public through  stage performances,  felt totally marginalized (their concerts and temporary contracts were suspended and  the interaction with the audience was  initially forbidden and then limited). These measures weakened the independent cultural sector and this is the reason  why we join, through this project, the national and international initiatives in the public and private sectors which aim to support the cultural sector.

"The scene in the neighborhood" is a local intervention project, through which 30 musicians from the  independent artistic sector in Timisoara will take part in concerts organized in local neighborhoods and will engage in dialogue with other artists from the independent cultural sector. The project includes the estrablishment of an associative representative body of musicians for an easier dialogue with public authorities and institutions.

Within the project, we will organize 9 concerts in 3 different neighbourhoods of Timisoara, thus the  musical genres will be as well different (classical music, jazz, blues). Through these  open air concerts, 30 musicians willbe remunerated for their work, while having the opportunity to directly interact with a very specific audience (neighborhoods and their citizens each have their own particularities). This initiative is part of a long-term approach aiming at bringing cultural events closer to the place where the citizens live.

In addition, the project offers musicians the chance to meet and  discuss topics of interest to them. Under the coordination of a public policy expert, they will form an associative body with the scope of communicating with public authorities and institutions through official  documents, open letters and direct meetings.

All in all, the project is meant to build confidence and hope for the independent music sector in Timisoara.

Summary of project results

The Neighbourhood scene is a cultural intervention project, through which Trib’Art Association created an optimal framework for carrying out the artistic activity for 40 musicians from the independent stage in Timisoara. The pandemic period is a period in which the music sector in particular and the cultural sector in general have been deeply affected by restrictions and the cancellation or postponement of events, leaving independent artists without support (unlike those employed in state institutions).

Given the fact that the restrictions on organizing events continued during the project implementation, the 10 concerts organized within the project were broadcast online, being organized in different neighbourhoods of Timisoara (Stadium, Ciarda Roșia, Ion Ionescu de la Brad, Circumvalațiunii, Fortress, etc.). In addition, the project organized 4 meetings through which the musicians of the project had the chance to discuss, debate and agree on priorities related to their work, and how they can work together. Steps were taken to establish an association of the independent scene in Timisoara and two meetings were held with representatives of the public cultural sector, to harmonize activities.

The main results of the project were the 10 concerts, through which the musicians involved in the project were motivated, stimulated and engaged in artistic activity, which they greatly missed. Thus, 40 musicians from Timisoara in the independent sector had the chance to work together and establish a connection with the public, even if only in the virtual environment. Another result of the project is the realization of an online survey, through which over 250 people from Timisoara chose the neighbourhoods where the concerts took place. Also, through this survey, we conducted a micro-study through which we mapped the public''s preferences regarding the types of music listened to, but also the types of music that the people of Timisoara would like to listen to in concerts.
