Description

The population from disadvantaged environments sense the effects of the coronavirus in an intense way. These people live “from day to day”, and some of them ran out of food and lost their jobs after the massive layoffs in the economic area of Brasov. The precaution measures lead to the impossibility of contracting daily jobs. Under these conditions, the anxiety generated by the overwhelming news and data leads to depression states, panic attacks, bad relationship between the family members. The project aims to improve the conditions for at least 300 people from underserved communities: Tarlungeni, Carpinis, Zizin, Purcareni, Budila and from Brasov. With the help of the organization’s volunteers, over 1,000 food packages, hygiene products, hand sanitizer and sanitary protection materials (300 packages) will be  delivered to the families who are in high risk situations. Five volunteers will  travel to the communities, to families to share packages, aside with awareness flyers regarding the avoiding measures of infection with Covid- 19. The psychological assistance will be  done in communities, at unprivileged’s houses, by the organization’s psychologist. The sessions will be  organized outdoors, 2 times a week, both individual and for group and will assist approximately 50 beneficiaries. The activities targets the increasing resilience of disadvantaged communities of Brasov’s county to overcome the emergency situation’s effects triggered by coronavirus. The project also aims the spread limitation of Covid-19 in underserved communities by donating protection materials and informing them on how to avoid the infection. The communication and networking component aims to create partnerships and mobilize the stakeholders to involve in activities, donate food packages and ensure media coverage on the pandemic effects over disadvanteged areas.

For 12 weeks, the volunteers made 47 trips to disadvantaged communities, sharing 900 food packages (one / month / family) and  300  packages of sanitary hygiene and covid protection products. The worst cases were taken over by the psychologist employed by the project, who traveled to the community to talk to the beneficiaries. 50 people (14 children and 36 adults) were evaluated and counseled. The meetings took place on a bi-weekly, telephone and on-site basis.
