Description

The purpose of the project is to help persons with visual impairment to have access to modern literature.

The Union of visually impaired persons of Magnesia “the Magnesian blinds” is based in the town of Volos with 214 registered members aged from 10 to 70 years old. These persons do not have access to fiction books, as the Union has a very limited library which consists of only 20 books (classic literature and books for children).

The project consists of : a. Conversion of the ink-print books into Braille books, creating a book-lending service based at the office of "the Magnesian blinds". Thanks to this lending library, the members of the Union will have access to Greek and foreign fiction; b. Purchase of Braille typewriter which will help the Union to better get in touch with its members, but also with other blind persons across Greece. The use of Braille typewriter will give the opportunity to members to write their own texts; c. Purchase of necessary stationery and office supplies for the prompt operation of the office of the Union.

The role of the applicant project promoter (Soroptimist Club of Volos Thetis) is to offer help in solving the problems and difficulties the Union encounters.
