Description

“Human rights are in danger both in the Balkans and across the world” says the World Report 2019 of Human Rights Watch. The latter makes it necessary to put forward the subject of human rights on the agenda of the public and young people in particular. The project aims at drawing the attention of young people towards this issue while they are still in school. The campaigns for raising awareness about human rights will help young people acquire knowledge about this issue and discuss case studies, thus supporting their further growing up and developing as full-fledged citizens. The organized events and attractive printed and advertising materials will be used to promote the universal symbol of human rights which is an image of peaceful upholding of human rights across the world selected in an international competition under the auspices of the UN in 2011. The universal symbol will be the main focus of all campaigns. A large billboard placed in a busy location in the downtown area and in front of the Court Palace in Silistra will promote the symbol and slogan: “Diverse people, equal rights, one symbol”. The project participants will build a culture in which people understand their rights and responsibilities, recognize violations of human rights and take steps to protect the rights of others, a culture respecting the rights of all people.

Summary of project results

Within the project, two campaigns were conducted to promote human rights. More than 100 students from the town of Silistra, teachers and representatives of public institutions and the local media took an active part in the project activities. All participants received information and promotional materials and got acquainted with the main provisions of the Charter of Human Rights and the symbol and slogan of human rights - "Different people. Equal rights. One symbol.

Many students expressed a desire after graduating from high school to apply for a degree in Law and to practice law in order to respect and protect human rights.

The feedback from the principals and teachers of the participating schools, as well as many parents, showed us that the activities were performed in a quality and attractive way to touch young people on the current topic and to arouse their interest.
