Description
The project "Dance without Barriers" is focused on dance and movement training of children with disabilities throughout the school year. The aim of the dance training is to motivate them to music and movement, create choreography and presentation to the public. The intention is also to overcome the barriers that prevent handicapped children from overcoming new challenges, as well as to eliminate the prejudices of the majority towards people with disabilities. The project will also help bring handicapped and healthy children closer together, and thus the inclusion of this vulnerable group in the society. The project is a continuation of a successful project implemented through the 1st call of the ACF program, it is implemented in Košice and involves 10 children and young people from the vulnerable group.
The joint school in Košice is involved in the project as a partner, with which the project will be implemented together. The role of the partner in the project is to create conditions for the implementation of dance trainings for handicapped children on school grounds, provide help and guidance to the dance trainers in dance classes and consultations in connection with the individual needs of students.
Summary of project results
The Dance without Barriers project created an opportunity for physically and mentally handicapped children to regularly participate in dance trainings throughout the school year 2020/2021 and to improve their physical training within their possibilities. Pupils have acquired the necessary knowledge and skills for their special development and integration into society, as much as possible. Throughout the school year, children participated in dance training twice a week under professional pedagogical supervision and regular consultation with assistants of handicapped children. Through the created dance choreography and the creation of dance costumes and props, the students had the opportunity to present themselves at a public performance at the State Theater - Kosice and at the final school academy where they addressed the public and the parents of handicapped children. The aim of the project was to overcome the barriers that prevent handicapped children from overcoming new challenges and also to eliminate the prejudices of the majority society towards people with disabilities. The intention is to bring handicapped and healthy children closer together and to increase the inclusion of this vulnerable group in society. Even though their legs don''t listen, their hearts beat for dancing. A total of 144 people took part in the project.
