Description

The topic of human trafficking is not openly discussed in the Roma disadvantaged communities in Slovakia.The main aims of the project is to prepare the environment, conditions, and networks for proper monitoring of the situation in the future so the state institutions could approach this issue effectively. Project activities will focus on workshops and trainings for Health mediators working in Roma communities in Eastern and central part of Slovakia in the following areas: raising awareness about human trafficking, prevention of risk behavior, building capacities for collecting up-to-date information about trafficking in the marginalized communities, migration and risks related to migration, trafficking of women and children;raising awareness about available services for trafficking victims home and abroad and related information. Higher awareness of the problem in the communities and creating the networks for future monitoring are the first but important steps towards deeper understanding of the human trafficking in Slovakia.

Summary of project results

Platform for support of health of disadvantaged groups is in daily contact with the inhabitans of segregated and disadvantaged communities through the Roma health mediators. The topic of human trafficking is not openly discussed in the communities, however health mediators often hear about suspicious job offers for young girsl abroad or adoptions of children without propwer involmernt of state institutions.The currently no actual numbers taht would clarify, wheter the human trafficking is a serious problerm particularly in disadvantaged communities. The main reason to initiate the project was to find out how serious are rumors from the disadvantaged communities and how big is the human trafficking problem particularly in disadvantaged communities.26 Roma healthe mediators and coordintaors were educated on basic information, signs, prevetion and reporting of human trafficking. They live and work directly in the settlements so they will also awarness among thier clients and if there is direct suspicion of human trafficking, tehy will be able to idetify the problem and look for professional help. Roma health mediators working in national project healthy communities can reach up to 250. 000 people.The project give us na ground floor for future activities to combat human trafficiking . Our organization has a ambitions to map the situation through networ of volunteers in Roma settlemenmts and pursue activities to prevent human trafficking and to build on the information gahthered in other upcoming activities. This project aimed to prepared the environment, conditions, and networks for propoer monitoring of the situation in the future that would help to approach this issue effectively. Project activities were 2 workshops and trainings for 26 Roma healthe mediators, newsletter and database of collaborators ( 116 people).
