The objective of the project is increasing the awareness and knowledge regarding adaptation to climatic changes. The project is focused to improve the quality of teaching of environmental topics. The currucila are focused mainly on such environmental issues as retention of water and climatic changes. Partnership is going to achieve cooperation between two schools, Slovak and German. Children and students will solve the issues of climatic changes and water retention in groups.

Summary of project results

The project was needed for realization of adaptive measurements to improve the ability of the area surrounding the school to detain water to prevent droughts and floods and improve the microclimate in the surrounding environment. The project was aimed at building an extensive green roof in the school, planting trees and perennials around the school and in a school yard. Big containers in a school area now detain rain water and the rain water is used for watering a green roof. We increased the awareness of students, teachers and wide public. Within the project we cooperated with our partner school - Heilig – Geist – Gymnasium Würselen from Germany. Students worked together on the project tasks. We undertook a videoconference and a conference on water management with experts dealing with adaptive measurements to retain water in the country. Students and teachers also presented the results and outputs of the project and their experience from the project during the Open Door Day in our school, Pupil´s scientific conference ŽIVEKO, Calazans Sports Day and Calazans forum. Outputs: -Building an irrigation system on the green roof from underground containers where the rain water is detained. -Planting trees and perennials in the school area -Adjustment of a terrain around the school pool -Placement of plant pots in the school yard -Building a green roof – planting plants and taking care of them -Increase of awareness, attitudes and skills of students and the public about water and its use, protection of water and environment and about drinking water -Blue Trip in Oslo, Norway
