Description

The project is focused on the implementation of knowledge about climate change into the environmental education at school and the implementation of water detention measures in the school area. A rain garden with a small pond for rain water will be built and a water tank will be used as well. The objective of the project is to increase public environmental awareness regarding the adaptation to climate change. The project is expected to make and promote a new scheme of work designed to deliver rain water and spread information on its connections to climate changes to schools. It is foreseen that 89 students will be directly involved in project activities, 49 lessons a year will be dedicated to the project in a new curricula, 16 trees will be planted and all the information about the project will be available on 3 webpages. Children, students and civil services are expected to benefit from the project implementation. The Private Elementary School uses the same address as Private Grammar School and will be directly involved in the project activities.

Summary of project results

The result of the project is a new teaching area for children, as well as the implementation of climate change into curriculum. The primary context was addressed to our students in the case of educational process on climate changes. At this background was build the new school area with measures for water management – a rain lake, several rain collection bins, planting trees and greenery and others. More than 80 students participated in the project activities, including the construction of the rain pond. Topics such as water regime and climate change have been incorporated into the curriculum and as a result 49 new lessons have been created that focus on climate change adaptation measures, water management, and the practical experiences from the project. Prior to this project students did not have this information in the school curricula.
