Description

The project is focused on the integration of knowledge about climate change into the environmental education in school and on the implementation of water detention measures in the school area. The objective of the project is to increase awareness and knowledge regarding the adaptation to climatic changes. It is expected that the project will create a system of environmental education curricula focused on climate change and rainwater management and that it will publish project information to the general public on the Internet. The curricula focused on management of rainwater and climatic changes will be modified for the school education programme. It is also expected to build such adaptation measures as: rainwater garden, underground tank, new planting of trees and sprays irrigation. Children, students and civil services are expected to benefit from the project's implementation.

Summary of project results

Our school has responded to climate change problems by this project. The aim of the project is to collect and use rainwater at our school. A certified underground tank was fixed next to the school canteen building. It collects rainwater from the school canteen roof. Then the rainwater is used to flush toilets, clean floors and water the grass in the school gardens. Above-ground tanks were fixed under the gutters of the other school buildings to collect rainwater. We use the collected rainwater to water plants, rain garden and trees in the school compound. We have already organized workshops and a conference focused on the rainwater management and its connection to climate change.
