Description

The aim of the project is to create 17 lending libraries of high quality in 11 primary schools with ROMA pupils and 6 schools in prisons in Greece.  The project will enhance the education process as the target groups will have access to high quality books. After the completion of the project 17 Schools will have been strengthened with new quality lending libraries which will include targeted books based on the needs of the target groups of the schools.  1.795 ROMA pupils and 550 students in prison will benefit by this project. The Hellenic Book Club, having 42 years of experience in the creation of lending libraries, will implement the project exclusively, without partners.

 

 

Summary of project results

The project goal was to contribute to the strengthening of vulnerable groups of ROMA and Schools in prison, by the development of methods that dealt with their needs. Its aim was to help them solve their need of acquiring  a Lending Library of  Primary Schools, in two target-groups:  a. ROMA pupils b. School in prisons. The project contributed to the strengthening and completion of teaching and education projects and  enabled the target groups to have access to  books of high quality, which entertain, educate and elevate their living standard.  

The special project of the HELLENIC BOOK CLUB for the "Creation of 17 Lending Libraries with quality books "FOR YOU" was implemented in the following Primary Schools of Attica: the 2nd primary school of Zefyri, the 2nd, 5th and 9th primary school of Ano Liosia, the 2nd and 6th primary school of Aghia Varvara, the 6th, 7th and 11th primary school of Aspropyrgos and the 23rd & 16th primary school of Acharnes. It also expanded to the primary schools within adult detention centers of Komotini and Nafplion, as well as the minors’ detention center of Corinth, the primary & second-chance schools within the adult detention center of Grevena, the primary school & second chance youth detetion center school of Avlona and the primary school & second chance school of the women''s detention center of Thebes.

The beneficiaries of the project from the primary Schools of Attica Prefecture that the project targeted are 2705 students of which 1795 Roma students and 213 teachers with 1485 in total. The beneficiaries from the schools within detention facilities are  550  detained students, 28 teachers and 625 books in total.

The project contributed to the benefit of vulnerable groups: Roma and Prisoners by developing new or improved methods to confront the needs of the above groups.

With the completion of the project, 17 Schools have been enhanced with new quality Lending Libraries that include targeted books based on the particularities of the target groups of the schools, as well as material for organization, operation, instructions, inspiration and library furniture.

The project will contribute to the strengthening and complementing the teaching and education work. It will educate further the target groups and enhance their accessibility to selected, quality books that entertain, educate and raise the standard of living. It will strengthen the bibliophilic activities of schools. It will inspire the love of reading, it will open the way to knowledge; it will offer the gift of knowledge in places where they really lack it; it will sow seeds of quality and culture among the pupils and their future.
