Summary of project results
The main goal of the project was to use the promotion of the principles of gender equality in civic education by clearly including it in strategic documents.
In the past period, we commented on the document Competent Teacher Graduate, which is now available in the final version. After analyzing it, we can say that our comments were taken into account and we managed to fundamentally influence the resulting document.
Our comments regarding the use of gender-insensitive language have already been incorporated into the title of the document, which is now called "Competence framework of male and female teacher graduates". The use of both forms instead of the generic masculine occurs throughout the document. Our platform suggested going even further and working with the term teacher. It has not happened that it is still used, but it appears in several places in the document, which legitimizes it (in the past, the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, and the Environment did not want to allow us to use it in official materials that we processed for them).
We also consider it significant that our comment on the competency regarding the learning environment has been processed, which currently reads: "I clearly show my respect for people of different sex or gender, (...) sexual orientation, socioeconomic status or origin, and I also show respect male and female students Consciously work with their own prejudices and develop their intercultural competence." This wording practically copies the proposal we presented in the comments. All comments with information on their processing are described in the appendix of the Competence Framework for Teaching comments.
Our efforts in the sphere of strategic documents will have a significant impact in the Czech Republic. Our modifications of the document Competence framework of graduates of teaching will lead mainly the next generation of teachers to greater gender sensitivity. The language alone indicates which path the next generation of teachers should take. However the document is also aimed at current educators to whom it will offer support in reflecting their actions from the perspective of gender equality, which is an essential prerequisite of a truly democratic society. Improvement of teachers'' practice will lead to change of whole educational system and gender equality will in near future become a part of educational curriculum.
The Platform of Gender Sensitive Education, which is a result of this project, plans a project that will connect 3 civil society organization with at least one university. This platform will also open more ways for the civil society organization to promote gender sensitive education and obtain financial means for human rights activities.
