Description

The project Green Tiger was launched in the face of climate change and environmental challenges. The root problem that the Green Tiger wants to solve is overconsumption and waste of resources. Finding solutions is hindered by the lack of a big picture and absence of cooperation between different sectors and segments of society. Green Tiger aims to come up with a comprehensive road map on circular economy and resource management in collaboration with all stakeholders: environmental organisations, scholars, entrepreneurs, government sector representatives, etc. Green Tiger as a collaboration platform is designed to boost environmental awareness, devise and implement environmentally friendly practices in all sectors and to foster a green economy.
All this will be achieved via different lines of activities:

  • Think Tank programme provides support to companies ready to change their practices to become more environmentally friendly. Green Tiger Think Tank working groups work to find solutions and strategies befitting the green economy;
  • Green Tiger pilot programme is open for organisations that are motivated to make the green leap. The organisations involved in the pilot programme undertake a 10-day Green Tiger Academy course on which they learn about the circular economy and gain skills for driving a change;
  • The activities of the project include various awareness raising events including discussions, debates and deliberations among the general public and civic organisations to understand the environmental impact of their activities and steer them towards making more environmentally conscious decisions.

Project partner Estonian Fund for Nature participates in organising public events, Producers Responsibility Organisation provides its expertise in waste management and Icelandic organisation The Blue Army of Iceland provide their expertise.

Summary of project results

The root problem that the Green Tiger wants to solve is overconsumption and waste of resources. Finding solutions is hindered by the lack of a big picture and absence of cooperation between different sectors and segments of society. Green Tiger aims to come up with a comprehensive road map on circular economy and resource management in collaboration with all stakeholders: environmental organisations, scholars, entrepreneurs, government sector representatives, etc. Green Tiger as a collaboration platform is designed to boost environmental awareness, devise and implement environmentally friendly practices in all sectors and to foster a green economy.

The project aimed at contributing to the following social changes:

1. To increase citizen awareness around waste the following activities took place:

- the public awareness raising campaign "Lets value good food" in spring 2021 in collaboration with ministries

- discussions at the Opinion Festival around resource deficit and the responsibility of enterprises and the public sector

- youth climate assembly in the Ida-Viru county to raise awareness on climate topics and get approval from youth to the Just Transition Plan of Estonia

- contributing to the research "Estonian circle economy: state of the art, future potential and necessary measures", led by the Ministry of Environment, and conducted by various parties

2. To strengthen the democratic culture by creating a positive collaboration platform between three sectors the following took place:

We have created a collaboration platform for businesses, environmental organizations and public sector organizations with more than 60 green-minded businesses as member - on Estonian scale these are big enterprises with strong impact. We have envisioned the future economy model with businesses on 14 topics, and introduced the vision papers to the public sector and environmental organizations. Recently a roadmap for Estonian energy sector was conducted together with 40 experts and scientists and the communication work around it continues. Before local elections in October 2021 we gathered the input from 15 environmental organizations and addressed the local governments with it. This was the first time that local governments got a holistic overview of what the green transition means for them in different areas, including governance.

3. To activate citizens and empower them in environmental issues various events and initiatives took place, for instance:

- public idea call within the food saving campaign in collaboration with the Ombudsman of Estonia

- the first climate assembly in Estonia that gives everyone an equal chance to get selected to the random sample
