Description

With the proposed intensive programme, we are aiming to further extend existing partnership in the Joint degree Creole, both to the north of Europe (Poland, Norway) and to the south (Croatia, Greece). The main aim is to invigorate cooperation between partners, and demonstrate students the need in conceptualization of alternatives. Ideally, we are aiming to stimulate research and teaching in emerging fields of anthropology and at the same time to increase social relevance and wider social impact of anthropological work outside academia, based on various experiences, especially from Norway. Facing structural challenges in the project of European integration, and global economic, political and social problems, the organizers of this intensive programme decided to present and discuss alternatives from anthropological point of view. More precisely, presentations and activities will touch the following topics: alternatives in economy, education, writing, agriculture, politics media, communities, ethics, solidarity, power, violence, creativity and art, methodology, and post-colonialism.

Summary of project results

The IP improved departmental international cooperation. It was as well important for the discipline. The IP encouraged younger students to discuss alternatives and thus contribute to the discipline and societies where they will work. The results are integrated into study processes at universities involved. Social networks established at the IP are considerable social capital. Presentations, teaching and practical experience of various kinds. New knowledge was accumulated. Personal communication between students and professors proved invaluable. Each student acquired now knowledge, but especially important is that everybody was confronted with alternatives in anthropology. Professors exchanged knowledge with others and experienced informal communication with students. The community of students and professors was easily established. Students' marks were recognized in their study process. Presentations at the IP, workshops and other formal and informal activities during the IP, and reports after the IP. University of Ljubljana organised all activities and events in Piran, took care of all details during the IP and assessed final reports after the IP. The main benefit was satisfaction of all participants. The donor contributed with lectures and very active involvement in discussions. They expressed interest in further cooperation at doctoral degree of studies, as well as in research.

Summary of bilateral results

The donor partner engaged two students and professors. They gave exciting lectures and contributed in discussions. University of Trondheimbrought specific expertise to the IP: anthropology of organizations and studies of (post)colonialism. Bilateral Erasmus agreement. Planned future collaboration at doctoral degree in Trondheim. The link established will most likely turn into closer cooperation. We discussed research collaboration, especially in the field of applied anthropology. All partners improved their already existing cooperation in teaching and research, based on their complementary strategic orientations. Alternatives were discussed in making anthropological knowledge useful in European societies at large. In November 2015, Norwegian anthropologist Thomas Hylland Erikson was invited to give a presentation at the event Why the World Needs Anthropology. At the knowledge of the organizers, bilateral agreements between universities of Barcelona and Poznan, as well as universities of Mytillene and Trondheim, and Zagreb and Trondheim were signed. Invited scholars and students will benefit from the IP,both in terms of educational and research.v Some public activities were organized during the IP, eventual ly we might revitalize the Mediterranean Ethnological Summer School.
