Developing a mediation system in Lithuania

A call for proposals is now open to develop and implement a mediation programme in the criminal justice system in Lithuania.

The number of prisoners in Lithuania is the third highest in the EU, according to statistics from the Council of Europe. Overcrowding and growing prison populations remain challenges and are therefore addressed by the € 7.7 million Norway Grants programme for correctional services.

A call for proposals is now open for developing and implementing a mediation programme in the Lithuanian criminal justice system. The aim is to increase the application of alternatives to prison. A central part of the project will be on creating a system for mediation and training of mediators. The total budget of the call is € 461.122.

The deadline for submission of applications is 3 March 2014.

Funding for partner search
Applicants may implement the project in cooperation with a project partner from Lithuania or Norway.  Funding is also available for partner search. The Directorate of Norwegian Correctional Service is involved in the programme as donor programme partner.    

This is the only open call under this programme. In addition, the programme consists of five predefined projects.
