On Sunday 26 April, hundreds of people in Warsaw hauled their junk electronics to the Pole Mokotowksie park. In celebration of this year's Earth Day, in its 9th year in Poland, used electrical applicances, bulbs and batteries were exchanged for 5,000 seedlings of spruce, pine and larch trees. The event was organised by the Foundation of the Ecological Education Center in Warsaw under the slogan "Protect the earth with energy".
The Social Ecological Institute and Økopomorka, a Polish-Norwegian project team under the EEA and Norway Grants, were among the numerous exhibitors in the park. At their popular stand, farmers and craftsmen presented ecological products and farming, and gave information about their participation in the project "Between the rivers Bug and Narew".
The eco-project, supported with €228,000 under the Polish NGO fund, aims to strengthen organic farming in eastern Poland and brings together farmers, voluntary organisations and local authorities in promoting sustainable ecological development.
