Newly established Czech Funds launch open calls for proposals

Supporting technical assistance and academic research are the overarching goals of two newly launched funds in the Czech Republic. Both the €2.1 million Technical Assistance Fund and the €4.8 million Research Support Fund are now announcing their open calls for proposals.

Technical Assistance Fund

The €2.1 million Technical Assistance Fund to strengthen governance and improve public services in the Czech Republic launched a €1.3 million call on 25 February.

The fund will support activities linked to the implementation of EU policies in the Czech Republic, primarily in the areas of justice, home affairs, environment, health, and development assistance. In order to strengthen public services the fund will also re-grant to projects that pool together experiences both within the Czech Republic and bilaterally with institutions from Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway.

National, regional and local authorities, state institutions, NGOs, educational institutions, professional chambers and unions, and other bodies operating in the public interest can submit their proposals until 25 April 2008. For information on focus areas and the application procedure, see the open call text.

Project cooperation: The Norwegian Embassy in the Czech Republic, here represented by Ambassador Ræder at the launch of the Technical Assistance Fund, is actively involved in facilitating Czech-Norwegian partnerships.

Research Support Fund

The fund, supported with a €4.4 million grant from Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway and €0.4 million from the Czech government, will re-grant to research and development projects that are based on cooperation between Czech research institutions and entities from Iceland, Liechtenstein or Norway.

  • Grants will be awarded to projects within the priority sectors for cultural heritage, environment, human resource development, healthcare, sustainable development, and children's living conditions. A first call for projects proposals within these priority sectors was launched on 10 March. Open call text.
  • The first call for grant applications for short-term expert exchanges opened on 17 March. Open call text. u0009
