On the initiative of the school itself, and with nearly €490,000 in support from the Norway Grants, the school has established two technical laboratories in the basement, where they offer a professional vocational training programme in waste management. Following completion of the programme, the students will be able to work as waste management environmental protection technicians.
Through the project, students and teachers will get the opportunity to work in a state of the art environmental technology measurement room and a laboratory for waste analysis, both of which are suitable for complex analysis of samples of soil, water, air, and waste.
Half of the practical training is to be conducted at the sites of waste management companies, whereas the preparatory classes will be held at the school.
“This is a vital project that will not only benefit the pupils at this school, but the whole region”, said Janós Májer, the major of Tokaji, at the official opening of the waste management programme on 1 October 2010.
In addition to the establishment of the two laboratories, experts are in the process of preparing teaching materials for the programme.
The new waste management programme in Tokaji in Hungary has been established in cooperation with Glemmen Upper Secondary School in Fredrikstad in Norway. The two schools will continue their close cooperation and exchange of expertise.
