Poland’s cultural resources are numerous and diverse. Its cultural sector – as is the case in many other European countries – is however facing challenges. For example the ability to adapt to new technological and audience developments, engage in cross-border cooperation, safeguard cultural diversity in a globalising world and acquire funding.
The EEA Grants cultural exchange programme will help address some of the issues related to these challenges. It will provide support for projects, and thereby stimulate capacity development, the sector’s adaptation to new developments and promote access to culture and raise awareness about cultural diversity and intercultural dialogue.
Second open call for proposals
Under the EEA and Norway Grants 2009-2014, €10 million in grants have been earmarked to promote cultural diversity in Poland. The second open call will distribute €4.1 million to selected projects. The deadline for applications is 16 August 2013.
Thematic areas for the call for proposals include:
- artistic and cultural education;
- cultural heritage;
- music and stage arts;
- fine and visual arts.

The programme is operated by the Polish Ministry of Culture and National Heritage, and the Arts Council Norway is the donor programme partner.
The applicant should be from Poland and have at least one partner from one of the donor countries (Norway, Liechtenstein or Iceland).
After the first call for proposals under this programme, 24 cultural diversity projects were allocated €5 million in grants.
Matchmaking seminar
Project partnerships between entities in the donor and beneficiary countries are strongly encouraged by the Grants, and the Arts Council Norway can assist cultural players the Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway who wish to get involved in cooperation.
“It is important that Norwegian project partners are actively involved in the planning and writing of applications to acquire joint responsibility of the project,” said Mr. Haakon Vinje, Senior Advisor at the Arts Council Norway, who is responsible for cultural exchange with Poland.
On 24 May there will be a matchmaking seminar in Warsaw, Poland that aims to match donor and Polish players interested in cooperation.
