Launched by the Financial Mechanism Office - the secretariat of the EEA and Norway Grants - the purpose of the tender is to provide an independent mid-term evaluation of the contribution of the Grants to the cultural heritage sector in selected beneficiary countries.
The Grants contribute to promoting social and economic cohesion in the European Economic Area (EEA). The funding is targeted at areas where there are demonstrable needs in the beneficiary countries and that are in line with national priorities and wider European shared interests and goals.
Culture plays a crucial role in social and economic development across Europe. The EEA Grants aim at preserving and revitalising cultural heritage to help promote the sustainability of local communities, stimulate social cohesion and make culture more accessible to the wider public. In the 2009-2014 funding period, over €200 million has been set aside for preserving cultural heritage and promoting cultural diversity.
The cultural and creative sectors thrive on the exchange of ideas and techniques. Strengthening cooperation between the beneficiary countries and the three donor countries – Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway - is also an important dimension. Partnerships between players and organisations working in the cultural field are encouraged both in programmes and individual projects.
