Warsaw: 13th International Film Festival WATCH DOCS Human Rights in Film

The programme of WATCH DOCS this year will include four regular sections:- I Want to See – a review of documentaries related to events, people and problems which are at the center of human rights advocates' attention;- Discreet Charm of Propaganda – a panorama of new films focusing on different forms of indoctrination;- New Polish Films – the most interesting new Polish documentaries concentrating on social issues, and;- A selection of shorts documentaries in the Watch Shorts section.The festival's programme this year features four thematic retrospectives. Two of them have been prepared in cooperation with our partnering festivals – with the Prague-based One World which celebrates its fifteenth birthday this year and with the biggest Norwegian film festival – Bergen International Film Festival (BIFF). The third retrospective will be dedicated to diverse perspectives surrounding the notions of migration and multiculturalism. One of the highlights of the festival will be the retrospective of the works of Maria Ramos – a renowned Brazilian-Dutch filmmaker. Films in competition reflect the stylistic variety of the contemporary documentary genre – next to the both observational but equally metaphoric film of Nima Sarvestani No Burqas Behind Bars we will also be able to see such works as Penny Lane's found footage film Our Nixon or 727 Days Without Karamo directed by Anja Salomonowitz, which would be best described as a creative documentary.Read more about the festival on WATCH DOCS' websiteRead more about the EEA and Norway Grants funded 'Promotion of Diversity in Culture and Arts within European Cultural Heritage’ programme here
