Description

The main expected achievements of the Project are:  new systematic approach to reaction on climate change displayed in the Action plan, reduction of CO2 thanks to measures carried out within the Project, implementation of adaptation measures that will improve urban climate adaptability in the selected locality and serve as the pilot ones for the whole city and participation of broad public and all relevant actors in the Project activities aimed at increase climate awareness and knowledge in the city of Banská Bystrica.

The following measures will be carried out within the Project:

  • Elaboration of the key document “the Action Plan for mitigation of and adaptation to the Climate Change of Banská Bystrica city (APMA)” setting out climate objectives and measures, including an detail implementation plan,
  • Realization of mitigation measures focusing on the most populated city borough in the Banská Bystrica city (Fončorda), on new climate management of the urban forests, on changing means of transport in favour of bicycles and walking, etc.),
  • Realization of adaptation measures in Fončorda (rain gardens, shadowing of playgrounds, planting greenery, creation of fruit garden, replacement of impermeable surfaces for permeable ones etc.),
  • Improvement of early warning information

The Project is aimed at the inhabitants (general public) of the city of Banská Bystrica, with focus on the most vulnerable groups in terms of climate change negative impacts (children 0-4 and Elderly 75+, people with chronic diseases).

The Norwegian Institute for Urban and Regional Research – Oslo Metropolitan University (NIBR) is involved in the Project as the Donor Project Partner. NIBR will contribute knowledgably to the correct setting of the climate policy in Banská Bystrica City. Within this process it brings new ideas to designing of the Action plan for mitigation and adaptation and to prioritizing adaptation and mitigation measures.
