Description
Main objective of the Project MITADAPT is to prepare Action plan based on balance of adaptation and mitigation measures in the Municipality Bratislava – Karlova Ves, one of 17 municipalities of the Capital of the Slovak Republic Bratislava. The aim of the Project is to increase climate resilience of the municipality, to reduce its carbon footprint together with application of nature-based solutions and biodiversity protection. Main target groups are local inhabitants, which are negatively affected by climate change, with special focus on the most vulnerable groups – children and elderly people.
In addition to the Action plan, demonstration activities and implementation of specific innovative adaptation and mitigation measures on public buildings and in open space will be carried out: deep refurbishment of Primary school and Kindergarten, open space Kaskády, creation of Community Climate and Biodiversity Educational Centre (COCLIBEC), as well as awareness raising activities.
The Bilateral Project Partner – BIOTEXT – Karl Kerner from Norway, with good experience in the issues on eco-based climate solutions and biodiversity promotion will be consultant and editor of printed and/or electronic outputs in English. The added value of the Project will be the development of a standardized terminology dictionary Slovak / English for mitigation and adaptation actions. The Partner will provide consultations and workshops to present the best practices in the similar centres from the Norway.
Summary of project results
The Project aimed to address following challenges in the field of climate change adaptation and mitigation:
- preparation of the Action plan,
- refurbishment of primary school A. Dubceka to improve energy efficiency,
- refurbishment of kindergarten Koliskova to improve energy efficiency,
- implementation of adaptation and mitigation measures in open space including enhancing biodiversity within the residential area,
- creation of Community Climate and Biodiversity Educational Centre.
Following Project activities were implemented within the Project:
- approval of the Action plan for mitigation and adaptation implemented by local authorities in urban areas,
- complex refurbishment of primary school A. Dubceka to improve energy effectiveness with innovative adaptation,
- complex refurbishment of kindergarten Koliskova to improve energy effectiveness with innovative adaptation,
- integration of infiltration basins into a public open space Kaskady and planting of climate change resilient domestic plants and trees,
- creation of Community Climate and Biodiversity Educational Centre for disseminating information and exchange of knowledge with practical examples of adaptation and mitigation measures.
Overall, 24 climate change measures were carried out in the region of Karlova Ves.
The Project reached completion of 1 Action plan for mitigation and adaptation to the Climate Change of Karlova Ves region with an impact on 0.67 % of Slovak population benefiting from living in more climate change resilient and responsive urban areas.
