Description

The aim of the project is to build a functional mechanism for the rescue of animals with the involvement of children from local communities in Medzany and districts of the Prešov and Košice region, as well as the education of these children in biodiversity, nature and animals.

The intention is also to complete the garden of OZ Brod in Medzany and thus create a place where children from Prešov (and other) schools can learn in a playful interactive way what biodiversity is and how it works. I will find fauna and flora, a pond, bees, birds, bats, but also rescued dogs and cats. As part of education and enlightenment, the project also plans to involve the Prešov self-governing region as well as organizations dedicated to the protection of animals and nature (such as the VLK). As part of the education of children from the communities in Medzany, the lectures begin in the garden of OZ Brod, then walk through the village and nature in the area, where they visit the gardens of seniors, who participate in the project and talk about growing plants, herbs and animal husbandry. The whole community will be involved in this part, which will give lectures in their gardens and teach children how to grow, behave, herbalists, live in harmony with nature. The promotion and the information system are made by the children themselves. Based on the activities of OZ Brod so far, it knows that visits to gardens are a great success. "Children love when we go to the neighboring gardens, where grandmothers show us goats, sheep, horses, they teach us how to grow plants or what medicinal herbs are in the meadow. The community in Medzany likes to get involved in our projects and pass on the experience to small eager visitors, who thus build not only love of nature and gaining knowledge through play but also a relationship with seniors. It is a win-win model that has been forgotten today, but which has worked successfully in the Slovak village for centuries, ” the application states.

Summary of project results

The goal of the project was to build a functional mechanism for connecting children and seniors in the village of Medzany, with an emphasis on traditional crafts, animal husbandry, cultivation, and herb gathering. Seniors living in the village, as well as children from marginalized communities were involved in the project. A total of 300 people participated in the project. The project focused on educating children in the field of biodiversity in a playful way. The interactive lectures took place in the premises of the project implementer OZ Brod (bees, bats, permaculture, shelter for rescued animals), from where together with children from the village they went to the neighboring gardens, where grandmothers showed them how to breed goats, sheep, horses, and taught them how to grow plants , or what medicinal herbs are in the meadow. In addition to their love for nature and acquiring knowledge through play, the children also developed a relationship with the elderly. Both the promotion and the information system were produced directly by the children, which also developed their creativity skills.

It is a win win model that has been forgotten today, but which successfully worked in Slovak villages for centuries. A functioning area where therapies are carried out for rescued animals and volunteers from the ranks of children are also involved in the process.
