Description
The project aimed to raise awareness about decent work aspects among the general public and to train employers, social partner staff, and public servants. This initiative responded to the need to highlight decent work topics identified during stakeholder meetings, particularly in addressing social disparities. The overall objective was to enhance the implementation of the decent work agenda, ensuring fair and decent working conditions.
In Slovenia, the project promoter recognized a significant need to increase awareness that decent work encompasses more than just the absence of short-term contracts. It involves various aspects that require discussion and practical application among experts, the general public, and social partner staff. These groups were to be properly trained on decent work issues and equipped to train others.
The project achieved its goals through a combination of training sessions, awareness-raising activities, and initiatives for exchanging knowledge and best practices. By doing so, it aimed to foster a deeper understanding and implementation of decent work principles across different sectors.
Summary of project results
The project aimed to address the lack of awareness and implementation of the decent work agenda in Slovenia. Key challenges included social disparities and the misconception that decent work is solely the opposite of short-term contracts. The project sought to highlight the broader aspects of decent work, such as fair working conditions, socially responsible employment, and social cohesion. There was a need to educate the general public, employers, social partner staff, and public servants on these issues and to improve their capacity to implement decent work practices.
The project implemented several activities to achieve its objectives. The planned study visit to Norway was cancelled due to the pandemic in March 2020, and Norwegian partner, NAV, did not follow up the cooperation. This training was then carried out for stakeholders in Slovenia. The project organized training sessions on decent work topics for social partner staff, employers, public servants, NGOs, and other relevant actors in the labor market. A promotion and awareness-raising media campaign was launched to reach at least 200,000 people. The project also organized two Duo Days, where vulnerable groups of unemployed individuals worked alongside company employees for a day. Finally, a concluding conference was held, attended by various stakeholders, to discuss the project''s outcomes and future plans.
The project successfully raised awareness about decent work and trained a significant number of stakeholders. Two Duo Days were executed, with seven employers participating in the first event and 13 in the second, providing mentorship to unemployed individuals. The second Duo Day was supported by a media campaign that attracted attention from various media outlets in Slovenia. The project also conducted training sessions for 550 participants, including 250 public servants and 300 employers. These trainings covered the most important standards of the International Labour Organisation and their implementation in the Slovenian legal system. Each participant received a certificate of participation and access to training materials. The primary beneficiaries were employers, social partner staff, public servants, and the general public, who gained increased awareness and capacity to implement decent work practices.
Summary of bilateral results
The partnership with the Norwegian partner NAV were not continued and a planned study trip to Norway was cancelled due to the pandemic.
