Treforex SRL collects and processes wood waste from its suppliers and sells the processed wood to its customers. Their headquarters where they process the wood are in the town Topilita. For each supplier, they need to send a truck, container, and a vehicle with loading equipment to collect the wood waste. The loading vehicles drive slower than the container trucks which results in a limited radius of 100 km around the headquarters and higher fuel consumption for each waste collection activity. In many cases, the suppliers do not have designated space for storing the wood waste, so it ends up being stored on the ground which spoils the soil and the wood waste itself since it will have soil traces.
The main objectives of this project are to improve the wood waste process by making it more efficient and more sustainable which will lead to higher customer satisfaction and higher turnover for Treforex SRL.
To do so, the project proposes a new collecting system using 30 containers and a special collecting truck. Treforex SRL will provide their suppliers with a container, which they will use to deposit their wood waste. The new truck will collect them and deliver them to the process facility. The new collection system does not require a loading vehicle, so the system requires less fuel, and the wood waste is gathered with less environmental impact. The project is estimated to enable the company to expand its service radius to 200 km, increase wood waste collection by 325 tonnes per month and decrease fuel consumption by 1175 litres per month.
The new system with new containers and a new collecting vehicle will therefore significantly increase the efficiency of the wood waste collecting activity as well as improve the quality of the wood waste. Treforex SRL will offer its customers a greener product, in larger quantities and with a shorter delivery timeframe.
Summary of project results
The project led to an increase of the Project Promoter''s competitiveness, reflected by the company''s annual operational profit and turnover. The Project Promoter has successfully implemented an investment project which consisted in the application of an innovative wood waste solution by the aquisition of wood waste collection containers and truck. The investment was directly linked with the main economic activity f the company (wood waste collection) and determined an extension of the production capacity. Thanks to the investment, the company has increased the annual collection of waste from operational processes for re-use and recycling. 30 wood waste containers are now used in the wood waste collection process.
