Description

The general objective of the project is to eliminate the risk of contamination with dangerous substances of the temporary waste deposit located in Deva Orizontului street, f.n. by closing it.

The specific objectives of the project are:  (i)the development of the best practices guide, in order to replicate the project result; (ii) raising awareness of the impact of hazardous substances and municipal waste on the environment and public health; (iii) reducing the risk of storage and accidental pollution in the studied area, but also increasing the contribution to reducing environmental pollution. Closure of temporary Deva waste deposit aims to increase the quality of the environment, to eliminate contamination risks, complying with  environmental policies. The project activities involve the work of extracting the waste stored on the site, which will reduce up to 40% of the total waste volume, followed by the process of developing the correlated technical specific steps, respecting the proposed, innovative and environmentally friendly closure technology. The entire remaining warehouse surface have to be grassed and a perimeter protective curtain made of trees or shrubs specific to the area will be created. For protecting area of uncontrolled access, project propose to secure the warehouse with a metal fence and an access gate, with a permanent wireless internet connection, powered by a system of photovoltaic panels and batteries. The permanent internet connection/service allows transmitting data to the institution that monitors the post-closure warehouse, being an innovative solution that helps the beneficiary to monitor environmental factors in real time and intervene effectively if the legal thresholds of the monitored contaminants are found to be exceeded. Data series collected in the medium and long term can bring important information about the long-term behavior of the facilities and can improve regulatory conditions and landfill monitoring processes.
