Description

The main objective of the project is to reduce the CO2 emissions by increasing the consumption of energy produced from green sources. The intention is to build photovoltaic power plant to supply electricity for Ocna Mures Municipality own use. The location of the investment is in Unirea Commune, Alba County, on a 19,500 sqm plot of land owned by Ocna Mures Municipality. The investment will cover only 6,000 sqm. The plot of land has the advantage having in the vicinity the discharging point in the grid owned by the electricity distribution company.

The photovoltaic (PV) power plant will produce yearly 630 MWh, which will contribute to reducing the CO2 emissions with 192,78 tonnes. The power plant will have a total installed capacity of 0,483 MW consisting of 1.584 panels (305Wp/panel). The PV panels will be located on the ground using an aluminium and galvanized gripping and fastening system which protects the terrain and plants. It is considered an optimum system design thanks to multi-string concept and step-up converter. A preliminary stage was already performed, i.e. field studies, documentation to get the requested authorizations and the feasibility study was drafted. Key activities include:

  • Investment activities.
  • Project management.
  • Publicity to ensure the visibility of the project.

Summary of project results

The main problem of the Project Promoter was the high dependency on the conventional sources, including the electricity purchased from the national grid, which represents a high cost for the cityhall.

The project consisted in implementation of a photovoltaic system placed on the ground, with a total installed capacity of a 0,50 MWp (1.352 panels x 370W), in order to assure electricity from renewable sources for the Project Promoter''s own consumption and to reduce CO2 emissions.

The photovoltaic system is expected to produce 652 MWh/year.

One new job was created: electrician, within the new Cityhall department: Maintenance of the PV system.

The proposed photovoltaic system will contribute to decreasing the dependency on conventional sources by locally producing green energy which will be used for own consumption. The implementation of renewable energy will allow the Promoter to decrease its annual CO2 emissions with estimated 199,5 tonnes of CO2 eq. per year.
