Description

The project comes as an answer to the needs of the niched audience in Romania, who enjoys cultural and musical cultural projects part of the rock-metal genre and who are looking for quality artistic products from this area, as well as developing the artistic abilities and professionalism of Romanian musicians of the rock-metal area by offering tight collaborations with Norwegian artists from the same domain. In Norway, this type of cultural product is no longer part of a niche, it has been strongly accepted in the society and it represents one of its most important musical export products. Presenting, in the center of Sibiu of an event like ARTmania, the most complex event dedicated to forms of expressing in rock-metal music, along with its high visibility, will encourage diversification and multiplication of such events. By developing strategic partnerships with some of the most representative Norwegian cultural operators of the rock metal music, Inferno Metal Festival & Music Conference and Midgardsblot Festival, in collaboration with ARTmania Cultural Association, the project will increase access to cultural projects by presenting 13 new cultural and contemporary art experiences. Through bilateral collaboration the basis of a medium and long-term partnership are laid, by transferring knowledge and expertise, by presenting Norwegian cultural projects in Romania, each cultural component being curated through a RO-NO tandem, from the collaborative design of the contemporary art installations in the main squares to curating the musical program. 

Summary of project results

The project aimed to address the limited access to high-quality rock-metal cultural productions for Romanian audiences, as well as the need for professional development among Romanian musicians in this niche. While there is a dedicated rock-metal community in Romania, opportunities for artistic enrichment and industry-standard productions remain scarce.

The project showcased a major festival-style ARTmania event in the center of Sibiu, the most extensive initiative within the project dedicated to rock-metal music and artistic expression. Its high visibility helped encourage the diversification and expansion of similar events, contributing to the growth of this cultural niche.

Additionally, the project strengthened cultural entrepreneurship by creating 2.5 new jobs and enhancing the skills of six cultural professionals, fostering professional development and stimulating entrepreneurship in the rock-metal scene.

The project had a significant impact on both the rock-metal audience in Romania and cultural professionals in the field. The high-visibility ARTmania festival-style event in Sibiu enriched the local cultural scene, encouraging the expansion of similar events and increasing access to high-quality rock-metal productions. Additionally, the project strengthened cultural entrepreneurship by creating 2.5 new jobs and enhancing the professional skills of six cultural professionals, contributing to the development of the rock-metal music industry in Romania.

Summary of bilateral results

The bilateral collaboration between the Romanian and Norwegian project partners proved to be highly productive and beneficial. Through continuous exchange of experience and knowledge between music industry professionals from both countries, the project successfully achieved its objectives, contributing to the sustainable development of the rock-metal niche in Romania. Strategic partnerships with Inferno Metal Festival & Conference and Midgardsblot Metal Festival played a crucial role in strengthening the planned events, bringing valuable expertise, industry know-how, and an extensive international network.
