Description

Romanian social landscape is still defined by lack of cohesion and involvement of citizens in public life, in solving problems of their own communities, and lack of interest for the problems which are outside the boundaries of their private life & space. The project will initiate and develop a interdisciplinary cultural platform that will encourage and support new perspectives and visions, across sectors, on methods about how living the present is shaping the future. Using art as a way to address and put into the light relevant contemporary issues, the project aims to support the formation of a new generation, actively participating in the society. The purpose of the project is to develop and promote critical thinking and interdisciplinary skills among youth. We are proposing the development of an unitary art project directed towards young generation and opening the art towards a new type of audience. The project will promote and develop visual arts field as a way of expression and a debate platform for the issues of the contemporary society from a global perspective, but with local application and impact. We will translate them into a visual language accessible to a wide and diverse audience, aiming to draw attention about plastic pollution problem and to empower the public to be an active participant in solving it. Project is designed for young generation (participant with ages between 10 and 17 y.o.) from six cities, but also for their parents, their teachers, members of local communities and audience from exhibitions. Activities of the project will take place in Bucharest, and in 6 small cities where the cultural offer is limited: Slobozia, Alexandria, Turnu Măgurele, Urziceni, Oltenița, Mizil. The Norwegian partner will have a representative present at the pre-production workshop, will be involved in developing training kit on stop motion animation and in the activities of urban camp and will be in charge of post-production process for 6 short movies.

Summary of project results

The project aimed to address the need for creative expression and skill development among young people, particularly those aged 10 to 17, in Romania. It sought to provide opportunities for youth to explore storytelling, illustration, and comic strip creation while fostering collaboration between local and international partners. The project also aimed to increase access to digital resources and platforms for artistic expression, encouraging the next generation of creators to share their work with a wider audience.

The project organized 6 series of workshops focused on illustration, comic strip creation, and storytelling across 6 cities in Romania. These workshops engaged young people aged 10 to 17, helping them develop their creative skills. After the workshops, the outcomes from each city were showcased in public exhibitions, giving participants the opportunity to present their work. Among the workshop participants, 13 children were selected to attend a creative camp, which was organized with the support of the Norwegian partner. The camp facilitated the creation of 12 animation films. Additionally, a digital platform, www.plasticzero.ro, was developed to host and showcase the work created throughout the project.

The project provided young people across Romania with the opportunity to express their creativity, resulting in a series of illustrations, comic strips, and animation films. The public exhibitions gave over 13,000 people the chance to experience the participants'' work. The 13 selected children benefited from a creative camp, where they further developed their skills in animation, ultimately producing 12 animation films. The project also led to the creation of www.plasticzero.ro, a digital platform that allowed the work of participants to reach a wider audience, promoting the creative achievements of the youth. Overall, the project supported the artistic growth of the participants, provided them with new skills, and helped them share their stories with the public.
