Summary of project results
The project aimed to address the ongoing degradation and underutilization of the Sarmizegetusa Regia Fortress, which threatened the preservation of its cultural, historical, and educational value for future generations.
Another key challenge was the limited public engagement and access to the site''s historical significance, which the project sought to overcome through restoration efforts and the integration of digital tools for enhanced cultural interpretation and visitor experience.
The project carried out significant restoration and revitalization works at the Sarmizegetusa Regia Fortress, completing the most important structural component—the ancient wall—as well as two key pathways and several landscaping and archaeological interventions, resulting in over half of the proposed works being finalized. In parallel, most of the activities planned for the valorization of the monument were implemented, including educational workshops, fairs, summer schools in archaeology, and a training course for guides. Additionally, knowledge exchange with project partners was successfully achieved through meetings, seminars, and a study visit, all contributing to the partial fulfillment of the project’s objectives.
The project achieved substantial progress in restoring and enhancing the Sarmizegetusa Regia Fortress, with the completion of the ancient wall, two pathways, and supporting archaeological and landscaping works, representing over 55% of the proposed restoration. These efforts have improved the site''s accessibility and appeal to visitors. On the educational and cultural side, the project successfully delivered 6 workshops, 2 fairs, 2 summer schools, and a course for guides, helping to raise public awareness and engagement with the heritage site.
