Summary of project results
This project focused on addressing the critical issue of sexual exploitation by improving prevention strategies, enhancing the identification of victims, and creating tailored programs for assistance, protection, and reintegration. It aimed to tackle the root causes of exploitation, raise awareness, and provide targeted support to victims, ensuring their safety and helping them rebuild their lives. The challenges were significant, given the hidden and complex nature of sexual exploitation, as well as the stigma and fear often faced by victims. Despite these obstacles, the project stayed committed to its goals, working to deliver effective solutions and support for those affected.
This project, developed in close collaboration with local authorities and non-governmental organizations, including women''s and victims'' associations, aimed to address sexual exploitation and violence against women and girls. The activities carried out included assessing the experiences, conditions, and vulnerabilities of victims of sexual exploitation, particularly those exacerbated by the Covid-19 pandemic, as well as analyzing new forms of violence against women and girls on digital platforms. Additionally, the project examined existing prevention, reporting, and assistance mechanisms for victims of sexual exploitation, including human trafficking, intending to improve them through a holistic approach. It also developed and tested guidelines and intersectoral flowcharts to harmonize procedures and enhance communication among stakeholders at all stages of victim support, ultimately aiming for their social reintegration.
Another key component was assisting migrants, either by supporting their voluntary and assisted return or by aiding in their regularization or asylum process. Furthermore, training actions were conducted for professionals working in areas related to prostitution, human trafficking for sexual exploitation, and other forms of sexual violence. These training sessions were designed based on Human Rights principles and a Victim-Centered Approach, ensuring a more effective and sensitive response to the needs of those affected.
The project achieved significant results in addressing sexual exploitation and supporting victims. It directly benefited victims of sexual exploitation, professionals working in victim support, and policymakers by producing key resources and implementing strategic actions.
The outcomes included the assessment of victimization processes through the production of four reports, which provided valuable insights into the realities faced by victims. Additionally, the project developed policy and product recommendations to improve mechanisms for the identification, assistance, protection, and reintegration of victims, resulting in one comprehensive report. A manual for victims was also created to promote prevention, rights awareness, and available protection measures, alongside awareness campaigns to educate the public on these issues. Lastly, the project strengthened professional capacity by training professionals and mediators, ensuring better support for victims and fostering long-term impact.
