The YES Equality project, in line with the objectives of the program and the identified needs of the Work-life Balance and Gender Equality Program, proposes to develop a range of innovative actions that focus on specific areas such as contributing to "Ensure the civic and political participation of women" by promoting equality between women and men at local and regional level. The actions planned with young people go in the same direction, aiming to sensitize them but also to enable them to replicate and reinvent strategies in their professional contexts.
In order to guarantee the desired impact, the project is based on a broad and expanding work network, including all the agents of the territory in a concerted work strategy, with the purpose of fulfilling its various phases, from the survey and sociological study before thematic, signaling areas and problems of the territory. Thus, it is intended to emphasize the crossing of the three objectives in the sensitization of children and young people, with an impact on the products they develop in the empowerment and empowerment of a parity democracy.
The YES Equality project results from a shared vision and from local and regional synergies, that bets on a network of work, on collective learning and the development of the necessary capacities to realize the social transformation. This project and its financing will make it possible to invest in tools, communication and training of transformation agents. Women and young people who through this project will be trained, integrated into the community (associations, schools, companies, municipalities, etc ... and given tools such as the practical manual for Equality and the YES Equality app that will be present right from the partners of the project, and can easily replicate and expand to other territories.
Summary of project results
This project aimed to address the underrepresentation of women and girls in political and civic participation at the local level. It sought to challenge gender roles and social organization, promote inclusive communication and educational resources, and share tools and best practices with the community. By aligning with the Municipal Plan for Equality and Non-Discrimination in Felgueiras, the project demonstrated a commitment to advancing gender equality and combating discrimination.
The YES Equality project successfully implemented a series of activities and outputs to promote gender equality and enhance civic and political participation among women and girls in Felgueiras. The project contributed to the Municipal Plan for Equality and Non-Discrimination, meeting program indicators such as implementing gender equality tools and training 54 local and regional professionals (51 women and 3 men) on gender issues. A sociological study identified key obstacles and needs for civic and political engagement among women, including vulnerable groups, using a longitudinal approach with two survey phases to evaluate changes in perceptions and impacts of interventions.
The findings informed the development of tailored training and capacity-building activities, connecting participants with mentorship networks, women''s political networks, and support for civic organizations. The project achieved a positive perception change in 82% of participants, as evidenced in training evaluations. Tools and methodologies created during the project were shared with local schools, councils, and stakeholders, ensuring sustainability and accessibility for future use. Additionally, the project’s final sociological report highlighted improved gender equality perceptions and increased civic engagement, reinforcing the value of awareness and education in fostering an inclusive and equitable community.
The project achieved significant outcomes by promoting the political and civic participation of women and girls, expanding their opportunities for social and economic engagement. Through training and empowerment initiatives, it encouraged active participation in their communities. The project engaged a broad network, including schools, higher education institutions, and social and associative movements, enhancing its potential for impact. Additionally, the Municipality of Felgueiras established a structured dialogue to advance gender equality at local and regional levels, further amplifying the project''s social and economic impact. These efforts directly benefited women, girls, and the broader community by fostering inclusivity and equality.
Summary of bilateral results
The bilateral collaboration strengthened ties between Portugal and Norway through the exchange of experiences and knowledge, fostering mutual understanding between the two countries and cultures. Norway, recognized as a model in gender equality, contributed valuable insights and expertise, facilitating the transfer of knowledge in this critical area. The partnership with Norwegian entities, such as Intermezzo Ungdom, further reinforced institutional connections, creating an international support network and paving the way for future collaborative projects.
