Blue Business Academy aims to increase the relationship between the Sines Port Community entities at the management and leadership level, training top leaders and senior technicians through bootcamps, coaching sessions, online training in new technologies, thematic training sessions with experts in the field of management and leadership. It is aimed at port companies with businesses within the scope of blue growth and its main objective is the competitiveness of the blue economy through job training for the development of business and management skills, preparing companies in the Port Community for sustainable growth. With the implementation of this training plan, it is intended to train 5 companies (1 large company and 4 SMEs), with the participation of 28 professionals in training and reach the target of 90% participation of employees of companies that declared better capabilities / skills in your professional field. In Portugal, associated with this dynamic of services and intermodality, the Port of Sines has been developing a set of simplification, electronic dispatch, security and supervision tools that ensure the rapid flow of goods between the various means of transport within all safety and environmental standards. One of the most visible consequences of this technological revolution, and which is already beginning to be felt in ports, is the speed at which information circulates and the ease with which the different parties involved in port operations keep in touch.
The current context is, therefore, favorable for continued growth in this sector. However, on-the-job training to develop business and management skills in the port community is crucial. With the current pace and evolution and level of demand in the port areas, ongoing training is essential for professionals and companies to be more agile in their response and continue to be at the forefront.
Summary of project results
The PT-INNOVATION-0116 - Business Academy - Gestão e Liderança para Portos Marítimos project was initiated to address the need for enhanced management and leadership skills in the local port sector. The sector faced challenges in implementing new technologies and innovative practices. The project aimed to increase the competitiveness of port companies and contribute significantly to the sustainable development of the sector. The success of the PT-INNOVATION-0116 - Business Academy - Gestão e Liderança para Portos Marítimos project is crucial as it has not only increased the competitiveness its end beneficiaries of port companies but also contributed significantly to the sustainable professional development of the sector employes. The project’s expected long-term impact includes the continued application of the skills acquired and the innovative practices trained, leading to ongoing possible improvements in the sector’s operations and efficiency.
There were several implemented activities in the project such as intensive two-day bootcamps focusing on leadership strategies, effective communication, and crisis management. There was also provided a set of software tools on the Moodle e-learning platform, covering topics like collaborative platforms, artificial intelligence, and data management tools. Organization of a series of conferences on business and management skills, fostering networking and knowledge sharing among participants.
The project has made a significant difference for its end beneficiaries. The intensive bootcamps and training sessions have enhanced the management and leadership skills of the participants. The software tools and e-learning modules have enabled the effective knowledge of new technologies in the port sector. The conferences have fostered networking and knowledge sharing, contributing to the overall development of the sector.
The project Business Academy - Gestão e Liderança para Portos Marítimos project, aimed at enhancing management and leadership skills in the local port sector, has achieved remarkable results that have significantly contributed to the sector’s sustainable development. Some of the results are: The project exceeded its targets in several areas. While 28 participants were expected at the intensive bootcamps, 22 were present, gaining valuable insights into leadership strategies, effective communication, and crisis management. The e-learning platform training, which provided software tools for collaborative platforms, artificial intelligence, and data management tools, saw 16 attendees, surpassing the project indicator of 14. A series of conferences were organized, which were a resounding success with 149 participants attending, far exceeding the expected 28. These conferences fostered networking and knowledge sharing among the participants. All company employees reported improved professional capabilities after participating in the activities, indicating the effectiveness of the training provided. • The project supported the development of business and management skills in 4 SMEs and 1 large company, with an impressive turnout of 62 different companies and 6 large companies, respectively. The number of professionals who received training was expected to be 28, but in total, we had 149, showcasing the project’s wide reach and impact.
Specific target audience for the project''s actions are the Sines Port and Logistics Community, team Managers (Directors and Managers), Senior Technicians and Port and logistics entrepreneurs.
