Summary of project results
Project CaptAQUA has contributed to the development of the blue economy in Portugal, in line with the objectives of the Blue Growth Programme. Specifically, CaptAQUA promoted development in the field of aquaculture through the training of human resources in the areas of business and management skills, as well as technical skills, as required by the aquaculture sector.
The comprehensive plan of the project addressed the various training points identified by the industry in this sector as being the most challenging today. The entities that participated in the consortium were S2AQUA – Collaborative Laboratory, Association for a Sustainable and Smart Aquaculture, and the companies Flatlantic, Riasearch and Viveiros da Espargueira. Within this partnership, the members complement each other with diversified skills in the different areas of training proposed, which allowed effective coordination in the development of the proposed tasks.
The objectives were achieved through a set of trainings aimed at promoting the qualification of middle and senior technical staff of companies in the aquaculture sector in Portugal, as well as in Portuguese-speaking countries (CPLP).
The training courses were delivered online and/or in person, depending on the specific objectives and content of each one. The training actions included one foreign language (English) in the context of aquaculture, as well as technical skills in aquaculture (pathology, larval rearing, systems maintenance, certification tools, aquaculture products valorization, RAS, etc.)
The training in technical skills was focused on critical aspects for the production and valorization of the product and followed recent technological developments. In this way, CaptAQUA responded to the growing need for training in aquaculture companies in order to enable the development and increase of the competitiveness of Portuguese companies in Europe and in the blue economy.
Project CaptAQUA can be considered as a good practice, due to its replicability potential to other entities, namely the Portuguese-speaking countries community (CPLP), and also due to the fact that it has contributed to an enhancement of soft and technical skills of the end beneficiaries of the project: human resources working in aquaculture businesses.
