Description
The “Pé de Feijão no Mar” Project was born from the desire to show sea literacy to young people.Formed by a ludic and pedagogical component, and another dedicated to school sports and a more active life, the “Pé de Feijão no Mar” project wishes to reach both young and senior audiences. To this end, a series of activities in the classroom and in loco were thought of, all with a playful and pedagogical character. One of the project''s strong points is the observation of the growth of maritime life in "reefs" placed on the seabed. Monitoring is done by streaming in schools. This monitoring of the growth of life on the reefs can be accompanied with information and recreational activities. These activities can be carried out in person or remotely.On-site observation, using ROV, can be performed once in each school period. The other is the promotion of sea activities. These activities can be sporting (canoeing, paddle and surfing) and boat trips, either for dolphin watching, or for trips to Nazaré’s North Canyon. For sports activities, a competition is foreseen, which may be between classes or between schools.
Summary of project results
The "Pé de Feijão no Mar" project is all about getting kids interested in the sea and teaching them how to protect it. It follows the government''s plan to raise a "Generation of Ocean Lovers" who will understand and appreciate the sea and help to look after it. The project underscores the significance of incorporating nautical activities, such as rowing, canoeing, and sailing, into the school curriculum, ensuring accessibility for all students irrespective of their socio-economic background. Furthermore, it aligns with the strategic vision of promoting the adoption of nautical sports in educational institutions, underscoring the role of nautical recreation as a key component in maritime policy initiatives.
The main objective of the project is to promote ocean literacy, with a view to raising awareness of the importance of marine ecosystems, their resources, and the necessity of their sustainable exploitation. Through the implementation of educational and sporting activities, the project aims to encourage more responsible behaviours, thereby contributing to a long-term utilisation of the ocean that is more conscious and to the enhancement of the quality of life for both citizens and the planet. The project also has been developed with the objective of promoting the health and well-being of the population, and this includes initiatives dedicated to the promotion of active ageing.
Since the start of the "Pé de Feijão no Mar" project until the end of the time period covered by this report, many different activities were created to encourage people to learn about the ocean and to take part in water sports, while also making sure that we could deal with the problems caused by the pandemic of the new type of Coronavirus. Because of the restrictions caused by the pandemic, the presentations had to be changed to an online format. This allowed the project to continue and let more people join. A partnership was made with a school in São Paulo called EE Sud Mennucci. The school''s students were in the 3rd grade.
After learning about marine life, the students presented what they had learned. However, because of the distance, sports activities weren''t possible at this school. At the national level, the project had the active participation of the initial partners and schools from rural areas that wanted to join. Even after the schools stopped receiving money, they still joined the project. This shows how important the project is.
Content was made about ocean literacy for use in classrooms. Because of the pandemic, this content was changed to be digital. This makes it easier for people to access the content.
Creation of some fun interactive quizzes to go with what we talked about. This got the students more involved. It got them using new technologies and made learning about the ocean fun, but still focused on getting more people to read and write about it.
When it comes to sports, new equipment was bought for sports classes at school. The main thing to mention here is the really important help from the Nazaré Schools Group (AEN), which got students interested in sailing, kayaking and stand-up paddleboarding.
The Nazaré Marés de Maio project was also helped by the partner, who did a lot to spread the word. This meant that more schools in the country got involved, and that the project would continue. Thanks to this work together, more people working in education understood how important it is to know about the ocean. This made the project a really good example of teaching people about the sea and how to protect it.
The aim purpose of this project is to develop activities related to ocean literacy for young people (a special area of focus called MAR) and for the elderly.
The main objective of this project is to help the approach of their participants to the sea and their vast work possibilities such as bringing the activities to schools far from the Ocean.
The activities implemented on the school sport side were, kayak, SUP and sailing lessons and as Ocean literacy and knowledge there were 5 new presentations done that were done and will keep e done on schools and the implementation and following of artificial reefs inside the Nazaré Harbor. Those activities made it possible to bring those how tried it closer to the sea and to understand.
The result was positive, we still have schools asking for the activities and we will keep the project active. We have more participants on nautical activities and curious to try no things and thinking on the Ocean as their partner.
