Description

During the project "Energetyk" Polytechnics School Complex in Walbrzych, with a support of center of space education NAROM from Norway, and SatRevolution company, will prepare innovative curriculum, and its pilot- and full-run. The project will cover final classes of the technical high-school over 2 years period. For 48 students educational trip to Norway are planned, in addition to 2 trips for 5 teachers for experience exchange and training. The curriculum will cover both theoretical and practical classes - students are going to prepare electronic devices, which they will take to the centre of space flights Andøya in Norway where it will be launched in educational rockets. The project effect will be an increase of graduates recognition at Universities and on the job market. The project long-term goal is to establish a long-term and periodic cooperation between partners.

Summary of project results

The key assumption of the project was for ZSP „Energetyk” in cooperation with the Space Education Centre Andøya from Norway and SatRevolution SA to elaborate an innovative teaching programme, its pilotage and subsequent full implementation. The programme, planned for 2 years, covered theoretical and practical classes - according to the schedule pupils were to perform modules of electronic satellites. Educational visits in Norway to launch the satellite modules with the use of educational rockets were planned for 48 pupils. Moreover, the programme envisaged 2 trips to be undertaken by 5 teachers to exchange experiences. The programme effect was to be the increase of attractiveness of graduate students among universities and employers. A long-term result was to be establishing of permanent and cyclical cooperation between partners. The outbreak of COVID-19 pandemics prevented the planned project realization as per the agreed schedule. Restrictions related to the pandemics (online education at schools, shutdown of borders in Europe, temporary suspension of project realization) destabilized its realization. Despite difficulties and the occurrence of risk of no possibility of realizing the project in the agreed timeframe, the Leader and partners undertook actions to intensify actions and the frequency of their conduct. As part of the project an innovative teaching programme was elaborated, based on which workshops on space education were realized. During classes, pupils familiarized with theoretical issues i.e. writing programmes, launching them and correcting errors through Andurino platform, issues of communication with sensors through digital communication interfaces, creation of one’s own communication protocol and communication with satellite, programming by means of the Andurino platform and mounting and launching the CANsat platform. Specialist software was applied, workshop tutors prepared 3D printed elements of components necessary for the assembly of the CANsat platform. Mobility - Space Centre Andøya responsible for realization of one of the key project goals – launching satellites with the use of educational rockets, despite declarations, did not fulfil their commitments and ultimately, further continuation of the project was ceased. Post resignation of the Norwegian Partner of the project, tasks related to mobility of pupils and teachers to the headquarters of the Centre in Norway were not realized. Thus, the project did not end in full success.

Summary of bilateral results

Space Education Centre Andøya was invited to the project in order to create a coherent and comprehensive consortium comprising both entities from educational and industrial sectors. The choice of this partner from Norway was dictated mainly by its previous activity in the scope of space education. Andøya Space Education is the only operating space centre in Norway providing various types of actions, seminars and conferences related to space technology, space physics, atmosphere, astrophysics, climate and environment. In line with the initial project assumptions cooperation with the institutions from States – Donors was to guarantee that both the staff and the pupils will gain knowledge from the best source. Project realization was ensured for 2 full calendar years. The outbreak of COVID-19 pandemics prevented the planned project realization as per the agreed schedule. Restrictions related to the pandemics destabilized its realization. Despite difficulties and the occurrence of risk related to the lack of possibility of realizing the project in the agreed timeframe, the Leader as well as all States – Donors undertook actions to intensify project activities. Space Centre Andøya responsible for realization of one of the key project goals – mobility of pupils and teachers to Norway and launching satellites with the use of educational rockets despite declarations, did not fulfil their commitments and ultimately withdrew from further continuation of the project. Cooperation with the partner from States – Donors did not lead to improving knowledge and understand issues covered by the project. Partnership with an institution from States – Donors must be assessed similarly as it also did not result in broader effects. In light of the above, Wałbrzych Municipality – city with poviat rights – is no longer planning to continue bilateral cooperation with Andøya.
