Description
The buildings included in the project were built in 1964 using traditional technology. The main problem is low energy efficiency, large heat losses and CO2 emissions (586.66 Mg/year). In the cold store building, the heat source is electric heaters, inserted into the rooms before the start of classes. Window and door joinery and lighting are in poor technical condition. The project is consistent with energy efficiency policies at local, nationaland European level.
As part of the project, thermo-modernization measures are planned for 3 school buildings. The main activities are: -Insulation, replacement of window and door joinery, -Modernization of ventilation, central heating installations -Replacement of lighting with LEDs -Installation of a PV system (3 systems, total power of 49 kWe) and a heat pump (53 kWe) -Installation of Energy Management System (3 systems) Educational and promotional activities are also an important component of the project.
Savings: Final energy :68.17%; CO2: 77.29%; Primary energy:78.49%
Production of energy from renewables 85.92 MWh/year
Grant/energy reduction: 645,24 PLN/GJ
Grant/CO2 reduction: 5 260,70 PLN/Mg
The target group includes:
- 295 school pupils;
- 60 school staff;
- 900 inhabitants of Małdyty Commune, 1000 inhabitants of Ostróda County;
- institutions and local authorities
Summary of project results
The aim of the project was:
- reducing costs related to the consumption of heat and electricity in three school buildings,
- improving the aesthetics of school buildings,
- raising the awareness of students, employees and residents in the use of renewable energy sources.
The following activities were carried out as part of the project:
- thermal modernization of the cold storage building - the roof, external walls and floor were insulated; windows and doors were replaced; lighting was replaced; the ventilation and heating system was replaced and modernized; a heat pump, PV installation and Energy Management System were installed,
- thermal modernization of the workshop building - the roof was insulated; windows were replaced; lighting was replaced; a PV installation and an Energy Management System were installed,
- thermal modernization of the school building - the roof was insulated; lighting was replaced; a PV installation and an Energy Management System were installed,
- educational and promotional activities - a press conference, a photo competition, and school lessons were organized; a website tab for the project and a funpage were created on the school''s website; roll-ups, leaflets and a promotional video were made, an information board and a promotional (commemorative) board were installed.
The project contributed to improving the energy efficiency of school buildings and reduced the costs of electricity and heat consumption. It generated significant environmental benefits - CO2 reduction was achieved and proper thermal comfort was achieved in buildings. The project promoted energy efficiency activities among students, staff and the local community. It has become an example to be followed by other entities/institutions in the field of energy saving and the use of renewable energy sources in the region.
