Project facts

Project promoter:
Police Poviat(PL)
Project Number:
PL-CLIMATE-0100
Status:
Completed
Final project cost:
€4,192,334

Description

The project aims to address the following direct and indirect challenges:
• Energy losses due to heat transfer through building partitions,
• High costs of heating school buildings,
• Unheated classrooms and common areas,
• No use of RES,
• Low ecological awareness of the commune’s inhabitants.

The project involves deep thermal modernization of building with the use of RES, with the aim to improve
the thermal insulation of the school building, improve atmospheric air quality by limiting pollutant
emissions, using RES, improving the living and learning conditions of the commune''s inhabitants, improve the
aesthetics of the environment, achieving cost-effectiveness which will save financial resources and increase
public awareness of energy efficiency.

Project realization will lead to a reduction of CO2, reduction of primary energy, increasing use of energy from RES
and is increasing public awareness of efficiency energy, while holding cost efficiency.

Thanks to extensive promotional activities, the end beneficiary target group is the students, principals and school employees of the city of Policki Poviat.

Summary of project results

The project aimed to address several issues, including energy losses caused by heat penetration through building partitions, high heating costs in school buildings, underheated classrooms and common areas, lack of use of renewable energy sources, and low environmental awareness among the residents of the District.

The project titled "Improvement of Energy Efficiency in School Buildings in the Police District" involved the thermomodernization of six school buildings. These included two primary school buildings, a vocational school building, a rehabilitation and sports complex at the Special Educational and Rehabilitation Center for Physically Disabled Children in Police, a sports hall at the Youth Education Center in Trzebież, and the Ignacy Łukasiewicz Secondary School in Police. Key actions included:
   - Upgrading heating systems, including radiator replacement, installation of new piping, installation of BMS systems, and modernization of the hot water system.
   - Insulating external walls, ceilings, roofs, and floors.
   - Installing mechanical ventilation systems, replacing external doors and windows with energy-efficient models, and replacing lighting with energy-saving LED lights.
   - Installing photovoltaic panels.
   - Conducting promotional activities, including the purchase and installation of informational and commemorative boards, launching a project website, and creating a summary video.
   - Hosting conferences, including the opening conference, where the project''s main objectives were presented, and workshops for students on energy efficiency. Educational workshops took place at the Transborder Ecological Education Center in Zalesie on September 30, 2022, and a final conference was held on April 26, 2024, at the Special Educational and Rehabilitation Center, focusing on renewable energy sources.

The main results of the project include:
   - Reduced energy demand and improved energy efficiency.
   - Lower operational costs and enhanced conditions for sustainable regional development through maintaining air quality in the district.
   - Improved quality of life in the region through better air quality due to decreased use of non-renewable fuels for heating and reduced emissions into the atmosphere.
   - Increased use of renewable energy sources (OZE).
   - Better user conditions in public utility buildings.
   - Increased awareness of energy efficiency among students and teachers.
   - Achievement of the highest possible energy efficiency and cost-effectiveness.
The project primarily benefited the students and teachers in the participating schools and facilities by creating better learning and working environments. Additionally, the broader community in the Police District benefited from improved environmental quality and enhanced public awareness of energy efficiency. The ultimate goal was to bring school buildings up to passive or nearly zero-emission standards, leading to CO2 emission reductions, lower energy consumption, and a higher share of renewable energy use.
