Description
The aim of the project is to implement activities that improve the quality of the environment in the Zagrodno region. The primary school building in Zagrodno suffers from very low energy efficiency which translates into overvalued CO2 emissions, overstated operating costs, risk of failure and low aesthetic class. A comprehensive thermal modernization of the building is therefore needed. The application of the project will contribute to reducing the consumption of non-renewable energy and CO2-emissions, improving the conditions of building use, promoting new technologies and increasing the overall environmental awareness of citizens. The project will implement projects that support the consumption of renewable energy, the improvement of the conditions of energy usage and new technologies.
Project outcomes:
- Improved air quality and reduction of CO2 emissions;
- Thermomodernization of 1 school facility;
- Increased environmental awareness of the inhabitants;
- Increased use of renewable energy sources – increment.
The direct target groups that will benefit from this project include children and young people, employees of the educational institution, residents of the and Zagrodno commune. Indirect target groups are also the general public and public institutions.
Summary of project results
The project was primarily aimed at solving the problem of very low energy efficiency of the building, which translated into inflated CO2 emissions, inflated operating costs, risk of failure, and low aesthetic class. The implementation of the project was to contribute to the reduction of non-renewable energy consumption, CO2 emissions, improvement of the conditions of use of the building, promotion of new technologies, improvement of environmental awareness of citizens.
As part of the Project, comprehensive thermal modernization of the building was carried out in the following areas:
- modernization of central heating (replacement of pipes, installation of insulation, replacement of radiators, installation of an air source heat pump and an electric boiler, installation of an energy management system: control valves, thermostatic valves, temperature sensors, controller and meters, and a photovoltaic system for the heat pump storage tank),
- replacement of external doors,
- insulation of the flat roof of the connector with polystyrene,
- insulation of the ceiling above the basement with polystyrene,
- insulation of the external walls of the gymnasium with polystyrene,
- insulating the roof of the school with mineral wool,
- replacement of external windows,
- modernization of DHW: modernization of the DHW source, installation of hot water installation, installation of insulation. As a heat source, an air source heat pump with an integrated hot water tank,
- insulation of the flat roof of the gymnasium with mineral wool,
- insulation of external walls with polystyrene,
- insulation of the floor on the ground with polystyrene.
Promotional and informational activities carried out:
- reaching direct recipients with information about the project,
- development and delivery of materials dedicated to the project:
- www.eko.zagrodno.eu website with English translation,
- poster campaign (A3 posters),
- a film spot,
- article for the local media (e-Legnica) and social media (Facebook) of the Zagrodno commune,
- preparation and performance of a board game for children from the Primary School of Zagrodno,
- conducting educational activities based on the game for the three groups of students,
- organizing thematic competitions (art and photography) for students,
- holding three conferences on the adaptation of the Zagrodno municipality to climate change, improving energy efficiency and the use of renewable energy sources,
- conducting training courses for employees by RES experts and the "Green Action" Ecological Foundation in the field of energy management in public buildings, the latest solutions affecting the reduction of energy demand in such type of buildings, modern RES technologies, Green Public Procurement (GPP),
- an information board displayed at the Project site for the entire duration of the works, and
a commemorative plaque placed after the completion of the Project.
The project has contributed to a significant increase in the energy standard of the building, CO2 reduction, additional primary energy savings resulting from the replacement of lighting with the energy-efficient one, and energy from renewable sources is used. The adopted solutions have made it possible to improve energy efficiency to improve air quality in the region.
The promotional activities were primarily aimed at making children, young people, teachers, residents and employees interested in modern technologies related to green energy, care for green energy, the environment and renewable energy sources. The goal was achieved by providing the direct recipients of the project with substantive and promotional materials. As part of the information and promotion campaign, public awareness of energy and environmental efficiency has increased, which has an impact on improving air purity as well as the quality and living conditions of residents.
