Description
Investment arrears in the scope of thermal modernisation of buildings generate a number of effects which adversely affect the attractiveness of the area and constitute a barrier to the effective use of economic, natural and cultural potential. Technologies used in the past cause insufficient thermal tightness of buildings, the results in large heat losses and high costs associated with exploitation, it is also the cause of unfavorable conditions on the objects and lack of comfort of their use. A number of investment activities assumed in the project are related to the improvement of energy efficiency and use of renewable energy sources. Thus, the project will contribute, among others, to - reduction of air pollution emissions, - increase energy savings through technology investments and of eco-friendly equipment, - increasing public awareness of energy efficiency.
Thermomodernisation will improve the conditions of use, thanks to the application of modern technologies, the project will positively affect the reduction of energy and heating costs.
The project results will have a positive impact on the natural environment, but also be beneficial for students and teachers who are direct users of the buildings as well as administration employees.
Summary of project results
The main problems that have a source, to power 3 school buildings, thus using energy, and as a result reducing CO2 emissions. Uninsulated walls, leaky windows and doors, which caused large heat losses, which generated high maintenance costs. The lighting also required modernization by replacing old points with energy-saving LED light sources. The external walls of the basement, sunk in the ground, external walls of the above-ground, the flat roof and the roof required insulation. In three buildings, the central heating installations required modernization by retrofitting radiators with thermostatic heads and valves, replacing old radiators and replacing the old coal boiler with a gas one, and replacing the heat pump. The above-mentioned factors meant that the costs of heat and electricity were very high.
The project contributed to:
- reducing air pollution emissions,
- increasing energy savings through the implementation of investments related to the use of ecological technologies and devices,
- promoting new technologies in construction.
As part of the project, a total of 3 school buildings were thermally modernized, the walls of the ground floor, basement and superstructure with an open area of 9,893.28 m2 were insulated. The window and door joinery was replaced. 3 central heating systems and a heat pump were modernized and an old, inefficient coal boiler was replaced with 2 condensing gas boilers. 1,671 pieces of lighting were replaced with new, energy-saving fixtures. A PV installation with a capacity of 39.36 kWp was installed. An information and promotional campaign was carried out in the Miechów and Proszowice Communes. A radio spot was recorded for the Miechów Commune (2 broadcasts on Radio Kraków) and for the Proszowice Commune (broadcasts on Radio Kraków), 2 TV spots were recorded for the Miechów Commune (broadcast on Kraków Television) and TV spots for the Proszowice Commune (broadcast on Kraków Television).
The main result of the project is the improvement of energy efficiency of 3 primary school buildings, which results in the reduction of CO2 emissions by 268 t/year; primary energy savings by 1103.22 MWh/year as well as PV energy production in the amount of 39.36 MWh/year. The results will benefit 657 students attending these schools and their teachers. The implementation of the project also contributed to improving the air quality around these buildings, so the residents of the Miechów and Proszowice Communes will also benefit from the project results. An important result of the project is the increase in ecological awareness among students and teachers of schools, local government employees and residents of both communes through information and promotion campaigns.
Summary of bilateral results
The implementation of the project in partnership concerned expanding knowledge on thermal modernization activities that are used in the scope and scale of RES use. An additional Norwegian Partner acquired knowledge on thermal modernization of facilities, RES technology and software. Employees of the Commune Office in Miechów and Proszowice established contact with the Norwegian Partner, which allows for the exchange of knowledge and experience on levels other than the scope of the project.
