Description
The project provides a full thermal modernization of five school buildings (provided: insulation of ceilings, external walls in all buildings, and in the workshops school no. 1 in Krasnystaw additionally replacement of windows and doors). Thermomodernization activities of all five buildings will be combined with the exchange of heat source for a heat pump - air water and the entire heating system. The planned works were based on a detailed energy audit. In addition, the facilities were equipped with a photovoltaic installation adapted to the buildings and a new lighting installation fulfilling the criteria of Polish and European standards. Investment activities were combined with a wide information campaign and educational activities. In order to make the inhabitants interested in the project, a leaflet action was planned in the city, briefly describing the project and including the website addresses where the project can be found. Moreover, information will be provided to local media. At the beginning there will be an opening video conference, and the project will end with a big media event - a nationwide conference. Students from schools together with professionals will prepare a film - advertising spot concerning the realized project and the beauty of Krasnystaw land. Prepared contests - art and nature - will extend educational activities to elementary schools in the district. The project has a positive impact on compliance with equal opportunities and non-discrimination principles. Active involvement of students of the Special Needs Center in all the information and educational activities undertaken within the project involves participants in a wide social life. All activities are directed to "everyone" without restrictions based on gender or religion.
Summary of project results
All five schools selected for the project "Strong in energy – improvement of energetic efficiency and the use of renewable energy in schools of the Krasnystaw district” had high energy consumption. Lighting in schools did not meet standards, and low public awareness of climate change worsened the condition of the environment. The aim of the project was to reduce CO2 emissions while achieving the highest possible level energy efficiency and cost efficiency and increasing public awareness of energy efficiency and renewable energy sources.
As part of the project "Strong in energy – improvement of energetic efficiency and the use of renewable energy in schools of the Krasnystaw district”, 5 school buildings were energy modernized, 5 photovoltaic installations were installed and 5 heat sources were replaced. The internal lighting in the buildings was also replaced. The area of buildings covered by thermal modernization amounted to 9 911 m2. The investment activities were combined with an extensive information campaign and educational activities, such as: an inaugural conference, a school debate, nature and art competitions, a tab informing about the project, a leaflet campaign, a clip promoting activities undertaken as part of the project and a conference at the end of the project implementation. The implementation of the project increased the energy efficiency of school buildings by reducing CO2 emissions. Information and promotional activities contributed to increasing public awareness of climate change and alternative energy sources. The implementation of the project also influenced the aesthetic values of school buildings, which resulted in the better learning and working conditions for students and teachers.
The target group of the project "Strong in energy – improvement of energetic efficiency and the use of renewable energy in schools of the Krasnystaw district” were teachers, high school students and residents of the Krasnystaw district. The scope of the project was wide and included the thermal modernization of 5 school buildings combined with an extensive campaign information and educational activities. During the implementation of the project, the Beneficiary learned about the solutions used in works related to the thermal modernization of buildings, and also became acquainted with alternative energy sources and how they work. Moreover, the Beneficiary and other entities involved in the implementation of the project had the opportunity to learn about the implementation of the investment project as well as the information campaign and educational activities financed from funds from the EEA Financial Mechanism. The project resulted in improved energy efficiency in 5 school buildings. The information and educational campaign introduced students and residents to the issues of ecology, climate change and alternative energy sources.
